I didn't think you were serious. She felt threatened and scared by his words and actions. If the jury agrees (they did) that is a felony hate crime since the hate you are not disputing.

I know people that feel scared or threatened if a “suspicious” car parks on their block. Doesn’t make it illegal. Question is if there was an actual threat or at least an implied threat, not if a supposed victim felt that there is.
