Some people prefer to stand on escalators, while some prefer to walk. They are both legitimate approaches, and should be allowed to coexist with tolerance without disturbing each other.
I don’t think standing is legitimate use of escalators unless it doesn’t get in the way of anyone. An escalator is there to assist commuters in getting up the stairs, not a place to take a vacation.
Same applies for moving sidewalks or whatever they call those things in the airport. No reason we need to say “excuse me” 20x to get past people blocking the pathway with their luggage.
