Amazon told the Journal that 99% of the reviews on its site were authentic and says Fakespot canít tell this because they donít have access to Amazonís proprietary data.

Utter nonsense, I can attest to the fact that most reviews are fake. I know someone who has been receiving "mysterious" packages from Amazon for a few years now, stuff that she never ordered and most of the time pure junk and sure enough a glowing "review" by the "verified purchase" shows up.... Pathetic!
If it's not free shipping it's not worth it.

That's why the way to look at reviews is from the bottom up. First look at 1 star reviews and work your way up from there. If the 1 and 2 star reviews are more about the seller than the product, they might be irrelevant if the seller if it's a different seller (or relevant, depending on reviews for other products by the seller in question). Then there are nonsense complaints. Also if the 5 star reviews seem too professionally written, they should be ignored.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Correct. "[Stating things eloquently] seems to be Yehuda57's job around here :)".  So don't give that away now for some fools.

IME, many faker reviewers, while not exactly professional, they do sound like they were paid to write it as if a profession.

I find that sorting by most recent reviews sometimes gives it away. Scores of five star reviews in a short time frame with the most recent reviewers tilted way more negative and sounding more authentic is a dead giveaway.

And I have anecdotal evidence for many listings fakespot graded as D which had entirely legitimate reviews.

Faksespot is not great but the point still stands, a huge % of reviews on Amazon are fake. And many with small % of fake reviews, might put 10% fake reviews to boost from 4 stars to 4.5. I see it all the time.
The smaller the brand, the more we see it.

Of course, I'm just saying anecdotal evidence goes both ways, and no one can put a number on it. Even Amazon with their "proprietary algorithms" removes legit reviews but still allows many fakes to go through
