Sorry. I thought this comment was referring to the Vox article. Now I see that I misread it. The other issue I am not going near!

There's more truth in this uninteresting article, and there's precious little of it here too:
https://www.vox.com/the-goods/22454885/who-pays-for-credit-card-rewards

Nothing but creating "facts" to fit the narrative of a sorry agenda.
I can take all his "facts" and turn it into an article on how credit cards are a tax on taxpayers (people getting paid on the books), while cash payers (generally gig workers or any worker getting paid under the table) come out way ahead.
I'm not who you think I am.

Gell-Mann Amnesia

“Briefly stated, the Gell-Mann Amnesia effect is as follows. You open the newspaper to an article on some subject you know well. In Murray's case, physics. In mine, show business. You read the article and see the journalist has absolutely no understanding of either the facts or the issues. Often, the article is so wrong it actually presents the story backward—reversing cause and effect. I call these the "wet streets cause rain" stories. Paper's full of them. In any case, you read with exasperation or amusement the multiple errors in a story, and then turn the page to national or international affairs, and read as if the rest of the newspaper was somehow more accurate about Palestine than the baloney you just read. You turn the page, and forget what you know.”

"I refer to it by this name because I once discussed it with Murray Gell-Mann, and by dropping a
famous name I imply greater importance to myself, and to the effect, than it would otherwise have."
 - Michael Crichton

https://www.foxbusiness.com/lifestyle/lab-tests-no-tuna-subway-sandwiches
Not unexpected, but once you read a small bit of the article it is easily visible how it is bogus.

The lab conducted a PCR test to see if Subway’s tuna featured one of five varying tuna species, the New York Times reported, explaining there are 15 species of fish that can be labeled tuna, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Seafood List.

Experts told the Times that when tuna is cooked, its protein breaks down, making it hard to identify, so the lab results may not be accurate, according to the Times.

The dude turned a $1,700 investment into $5Billion?! Respect... Or did Pro-Publica  leave out later contributions?

I get how Thiel was able to do it, but how are people like Buffet able to use an IRA?

Probably rolled a 401k into an IRA, and then into a backdoor Roth

The $1700 were shares in his own company. That company ended up being sold for 1.5 billion of which he got hundreds of millions, and then those millions were reinvested within the IRA.

That accounts for his going from $1,700 to $28.5 million. Getting from there to $5 billion in less than 20 years is also not bad...

The Absurd Story Behind China’s Biggest Bank Robbery

A bit long-winded, but a fascinating read nevertheless. Sad ending.
