Interesting point:
Why fingerprints make lousy authentication tokens

The gist of it: fingerprints (or any biometric authentication) is pretty lousy compared to a PIN. While a PIN you can a)keep to yourself and b)change if it gets compromised, your fingerprints a) get left lying around everywhere and b)once a bad guy gets hold of it you can't change them.

All those issues have been taken care of in modern scanners. I can't vouch for the iPhone though

The vulnerabilities are not in the scanners, they are in the fingerprints...

No. I was responding to your comparison. Plus the article I posted says fingerprints also aren't an issue. I'll read your article now.

Eta: Read the article. The author believes that chopping off a finger would work, same with fingerprints. He's wrong on both counts. You know what they about bloggers and research...
