However, I have to disagree with one thing. Hecht claims, "In a departure from leaders and organizations that often prey on the emotional and social vulnerabilities of the public, Rabbi Schneerson always pursued a genuine dialogue with others. He sought partners, not followers."
It is certainly true that he sought many partners as evidenced by the many who are continuing to partner with him after his death; however, to claim that he only sought partners and wasn't a Rebbe figure is just inaccurate. The gadol who did that to the greatest extent was the Rav (Rabbi Yosef Dov Solovechik). He espounsed a Hashkafah (agree or disagree) of exploration of ideas, sometimes even contradictory and reaching one's own conclusions.
Just one small note, on an otherwise excellent piece on of the great Jewish leaders.
