So even in chabbad internet is not an inherently good thing. It's just not regulated for adults. I guess for the same reason as the litvish community in America. There is no central leadership involved in the day to day lives of people. (Unlike Israel and general chassidim even in the USA).
Is this good or bad? I personally believe that the approach towards internet taken by the asifa (I.e. internet is the great Satan etc.) has proven to be a grave mistake. Evident by the fact that this "great Satan" is present in virtually everyone pocket, business and home.
It obviously cannot be maligned as a shtik chazzer if it is a part and parcel of everyone's day to day life.
Not what I said. Internet is klipas noga. It can be used for good or bad and it's our job as human beings to choose good and be a positive influence on the world.
What 30 years ago would take years to reach the 4 corners of the world can go viral today in minutes. Just look at the MH370 story. Would have been 1,000x greater if the DDFer would have come forward and verified the story with CNN and the like.
But it still had a positive influence on the Jewish world. I still have people who come over to me and say they have nothing to do with miles, but that the story inspired them.
A kid isn't mature enough to make the right decisions, but by the time you're an adult it's hoped that you'll use it for the positive and not the opposite. Bans are silly, especially when it just causes people to scoff and go OTD, ch"v. Proper education is 100x more useful.
