Should the US women's soccer team players be paid more than the men's?
If they bring in more revenue, of course

Yes
If you are saying that because they have more success, that's not how it works. People get paid based on how much money they bring in, the replacement costs required to sustain that revenue and how much someone else is willing to pay.

That's why it's become such a hot topic lately. Per the NYT, the USWNT earned more in game revenue in 2016 than the USMNT:

Why is it dependent on the revenue they bring in? A business owner/CEO will and should pay only what they need to in order to hire the talent they need. If there is an oversupply of talented female soccer players and a shortage of male players then the women will be payed less. That is likely to even out over time.

Your supply demand analogy is backwards. You think the countries with the most soccer talent pay less to their national team players? It's the opposite. If you want your countries best players to play, you have to compensate them commensurate with their value in the sport.

Besides, it's much harder to make the supply and demand, market economy argument with national teams. There are other factors like patriotism/nationalism that may prevent the normal labor/management dynamic from playing out as it would in the wider world of sports.

I can't say I put the thought into it as I would for a doctoral thesis but my point is that it has more to do with the supply/demand of employees than the ability to bring in revenue.

Right, but that's simply not true.

It's dependent on the revenue they bring in, because the owners are balancing what they are paying and getting versus what they would otherwise pay for someone else and get from that player.

They are definitely related but if they can get someone for less and acheive the same result they would be crazy not to.

Why would you think they could though?

I'm referring to getting someone else for less, not getting the same person for less.

And as far as 'they could', that's the subject of the ongoing dispute - can't exactly state that unequivocally.

What is the dispute? That some feminists are saying they shouldn't be able to? They are paying what they need to to get the talent required in a free market. It may not be pretty and we may not like the idea that a the market offers less to a female player, but that is the way it is. If a higher cost was needed to secure the talent then it would be paid. A male player can possibly adapt to other sprots while for a female player there isn't as much available. There are many factors which get bundled in on their own by the market.

The national team is not a free market. A player is generally only eligible for one team, and feels allegiance to one team/country.
