It is usually possible to predict where those pictures will be and look the other way. It is impossible to totally avoid but you do your best.

Ads can for the most part be avoided and women in lingerie can also. Also the Torah makes a differentiation between needing to be somewhere and placing yourself in a place like that which is avoidable.
When I plan a vacation, if I see that it won't be able to be avoided then I don't go. Not because I'm holy, but because that means its too touristy for my taste.

I don't get the point.  Modern airliners are all fly by wire, with humans manipulating computer programs. So DARPA builds a robot and programs it to manually manipulate the program?  Why not just write it in to the planes program. Sort of like and automated pilot.
