So he should divorce his non-Jewish wife.
Why? Did he state what religion he is?

He just wants a holiday and to give his kids a gift. It's a cultural thing, not a religion.

Why? Did he state what religion he is?

I wonder what he means by very important.

He just wants a holiday and to give his kids a gift. It's a cultural thing, not a religion.

Then why would he say he's no longer an atheist? Lots of atheists give their kids x-mas presents but don't believe in anything x-tian.

Not sure what you're saying. If CBC wants to live his life like today in the USA is שעת הסכנה that's fine, but don't turn it into a Hashkafah.
I'm saying his "hashkafah" is not so much that it's שעת הסכנה as much as it is התנגדות.

I think it means hedging your bet.  :)

Zuckerberg, who was raised Jewish, has cultivated an interest in Buddhism through his wife and met the Pope last summer, did not elaborate on his beliefs and did not explicitly say if he subscribed to a specific movement.

Why can't it just be the simple truth as I see it.
Unnecessarily stirring up hatred.

The hashkafah of trying to stay under the radar is not based on hisnagdus.

Perhaps to some extent, the opposite...

I actually think his soul is reaching out. It might be a lengthy journey, but eventually he should get where he should be.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

So he should divorce his non-Jewish wife.
That's one aspect of a whole big religion and nowhere did he state the religion was Judiasm anyways.  Classy response to a seemingly nice article.

Saying you're no longer an atheist implys your belief of a higher power. I'd say that's a great start for him.
It's amazing to see how quick we are to judge his way of believing.    Especially because he didn't really get into details too much.

Zuckerberg, who was raised Jewish, has cultivated an interest in Buddhism through his wife and met the Pope last summer, did not elaborate on his beliefs and did not explicitly say if he subscribed to a specific movement.

At least two of those belief systems are mutually exclusive.

Why can't it just be the simple truth as I see it.
Unnecessarily stirring up hatred.

I'm trying to understand the truth as you see it, how you understand that quote you quoted and its applicability today. Instead of explaining yourself you're interpreting my question as hatred.

That's a funny word, didn't know it was an -ism...

On a serious note, does anyone here actually know what it means that he was "raised Jewish"?

Still interesting that that's you're reaction to the article.

He was blessed by the rabbi as an infant and had an electric menorah in the window.

In today's day and age, anything can be an -ism

On the serious note, the way I understand it is when someone says he "raised Jewish" or for that matter להבדיל raised anything else, it means that he never saw being Jewish as part of his identity, but rather a religion practiced (to one extent or another) in his family.

Unlike many on this forum, for whom being Jewish is not a religious issue, but rather an identity issue, for many people who were like תינוקות שנשבו, Judaism is just another religion and belief system. However, as long as they have a Yiddishe neshomo, לא ידח ממנו נדח and there's hope that they will eventually connect with their true identity and with the aibershter.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!
