Someone will have Trumps ear.

His/her ties to Rubashkin are tenuous, at best. I hope I'm wrong.

I agree with Obama.

1. Manning was a whistleblower and exposed some real dirt that Americans deserved to know, and was highly over punished, even if you consider him guilty. I would like to see more whistleblowers, not less.

2. He is mentally ill as proven by his gender confusion.
Give the crazy man some leniency.

You do know the is a legal route for whistleblowers to take?

Also, a huge portion of the documents he leaked were not in anyway about whistleblowing.

You do know the is a legal route for whistleblowers to take?

Whoever told you that fed you a load of baloney.

"Hundreds of laws grant protection to whistleblowers, but stipulations can easily cloud that protection and leave whistleblowers vulnerable to retaliation and legal trouble...Whistleblowers frequently face reprisal, sometimes at the hands of the organization or group they have accused, sometimes from related organizations, and sometimes under law." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whistleblower#United_States

and
"National security whistleblowers do not currently have court access to challenge retaliation. The current system for enforcing intelligence community whistleblowers’ rights against reprisal is entirely internal."  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whistleblower_protection_in_the_United_States

and
"PPD-19 does not protect contractors from any form of reprisal except decisions connected to their security clearance, which leaves them open to retaliatory terminations, investigations and criminal prosecutions. According to whistleblower lawyer Mark Zaid, excluding contractors was “a remarkable and obviously intentional oversight, given the significant number of contractors who now work within the intelligence community. This is a gap that desperately needs to be closed, as I often have contractors coming to me with whistleblower-type concerns and they are the least protected of them all."

and
"In 2009, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) published a report stating that employees who reported illegal activities did not receive enough protection from retaliation by their employers. Based on data from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, only 21% of the 1800 whistleblower cases reviewed by the agency in 2007 had "a favorable outcome" for the whistleblower. The GAO found that the key issues were lack of resources for investigating employees' claims and the legal complexity of whistleblower protection regulations."

Quote
Also, a huge portion of the documents he leaked were not in anyway about whistleblowing.

I believe I acknowledged that already

I kinda did. I said he was overly punished, meaning even what he did wrong did not warrant the punishment. I also said he that he is mentally ill and he deserves reduced time for his beneficial whistleblowing. He also already served time, 35 years is preposterous.

The real question is how Obama can justify it. He obviously can't use your "mentally ill" reason, and if he points to the whistleblowing he takes away any his ability to complain about the DNC hack.

This is one power they should take away from the president. The courts have spoken. That's the reason we have a legal system.  >:(

Bingo.
And releasing classified information is arguably treason, making 35 years lenient.

It's probably not PC to say, but no way Manning gets his sentence commuted if he's not transgender

I disagree. The president should be responsible to use it only in extenuating circumstances (think Nixon)

The question is why despite his campaigning on transparency, and failing to deliver any of that during his 8 years, he finally decides to become a little more transparent at the end when it no longer benefits his legacy?
