it is allowed in most cases if the person doing it is not jewish and if nobody specifically asked them to do it.
That was what I was getting at. What if I came to your house for Shabbos and out of habit turn a light off/on? No big deal?

But what should the rationalists do when they are indeed correct?

Or, how do you suppose we curb the rampant reliance on quack "medicine" and distrust of real doctors?
It's unfortunate that he is so busy using every opportunity to bash the "right wing" orthodox and the rabanim. This can actauly be an interesting debate and discussion. But the tone of his blog post distracts from meaningful conversation.
As an aside- did anyone else see the irony in him using the story of a girl who unfortunately lost her arm after not being vaccinated,  right after lambasting rabbis for solely following anectodle evidence ?

How about Lawry's Prime Rib or is that pushing it.  :)
Note to self: make reservations for Lawry's as it has been months.
Enjoy.

I might commit suicide if I was never able to eat lobster again. Is that a loophole?  :)

Good point which only goes to illustrate that this isn't about the cause, it's about wanting to be morally outraged. Some people get their moral outrage fix by being religious fundamentalists, some get it by being liberals, rationalists, intellectuals, etc. What the Meiah Shaarim stone thrower and the secular, humanist, social justice warrior have in common is that they would both rather be outraged than to actually work along side of people who don't think like them in order to fix problems.

It's like the vort about machatzis hashekel. The middle letter is the tzadik, the inner two letters are cha"i and the outer two letters are mei"s.

I think it's possible for rabbonim to walk that fine line. The balance here is between seeking appropriate care while not relying on it - relying on HKBH instead.

Sounds nice but impractical as when one is sick they will fly to the other side of the world to find a better doctor rather than rely on Hashem through a board certified doctor locally.

if something can prevent life/death issue then most things are permitted to save a life. Just not allowed to violate the "big-3".

The torah is very sparse on its restrictions on non-jews. There are many things I wouldn't recommend to say the least but are not restricted by the torah for non-jews.
