Why do I need to allow you access to my cars?

The problem isn't that they were hiding, the problem is that they were doing something that had to be hidden.

what law were they breaking? im not talking uber in general, rather identifying people who are looking to bait them and not allowing them use of their service.
This was done to enable them to break the law on a mass scale. Does that mean that it breaks the law? I will let the lawyers figure that one out, but it sounds like conspiracy to me.

Or rather they were exercising their rights?
If a cop says I wanna search around your office to see if I could find wrongdoing would you comply without a warrant?

So if Walmart decides to sell an item at a loss, are they exercising their rights, even though it will put small mom-and-pop stores that can't compete with them out of business?

Besides for everything else, what Uber allegedly did here was circumventing the law take the law into their own hands* in a way only they are able to, due to their deep pockets.

*even if it was initially designed in order to avoid doing business with people that violate the T&C, does that make it legal or morally OK to take the law into your own hands, and punish such a person by deceiving them? Using it to deceive law enforcement, is another step. If you don't like the laws, work to get them changed! As long as they're on the books, everyone needs to abide in a level playing field!
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Circumventing what law?

While @aygart answered your question in a succinct manner (though he allowed a typo to slip, meaning to write licensure). Please refer back to my edited post above (and footnote) and clarify where you see the flaws in my logic.

You mean the legalized mafia rackateering that requires drivers to pay the government "protection" money in order to operate? By the way, uber is not a new concept. Riding in the car is not required in 2017 to understand how their business operates. It's sad that you guy are dumb enough to be convinced of this crap.

For some reason, in NY Uber does comply with the law, and have all their drivers (and vehicles) licensed/registered with the Taxi & Limousine Commission.

I am not saying that the Taxi medallion business model is right, but there are legal livery cabs (including Uber in NY), and besides for generating revenue for the government, the oversight provides valuable protection for the public.

There are reasons for the laws. If you feel they are outdated then contact your elected officials to have them changed.

I am not a lawyer, nor do I have any expertise in this area of the law, but I would guess there might be an issue with antitrust laws.

You think they should be forced to do business with people they don't want to do business with?

No. But two wrongs don't make one right. Should they be allowed to deceive someone they believe violated their T&C, rather than just tell that person they are banned, outright, and give reason?

If you don't like the laws (and I don't), change them. You don't have a right to ignore them just because you are big enough to get away with it.

And now we're back to where we started,

Do you have respect for organized crime?

The only protection the government provides is that they won't throw you in jail if you pay their extortionary licensing fee. The only difference between cities is how well the mafia controls it.

There are reasons why there are laws. If you wanna investigate a company, bring them to court.
They have no legal requirement to comply with your sting. If you don't like it, change the law.

You are getting caught up in how they avoided being caught breaking the law, and ignoring the fact that they clearly and deliberately broke the law.

Getting caught? They know exactly what the laws are where they operate.
The cities don't like it and yet still want to somehow shut them down and start a witch hunt that they don't participate in.
