Wheneve I see this I my reaction is that 190 is not so hot for a coffee. I know thatts not the point here but cant help it. Just because its "close to boiling" and they show an image of a temperature gaugr with "as hot as the sun" doesnt make it crazy hot.
My keurig goes up to 192, and I find the coffee to be not hot enough

That was basically a quick tl;dr of the HBO doc on the subject - Hot Coffee.

From the wiki page:
Quote
This segment features interviews with Liebeck's family and focuses on their perspective of the trial. This included news clips, comments from celebrities and politicians about the case, as well as myths and misconceptions, including how many people thought she was driving when the incident occurred and thought that she suffered only minor superficial burns, while in truth she suffered severe burns and needed extensive surgeries. The concept of accountability is also discussed. The film also discussed in great depth how Liebeck v. McDonald's Restaurants is often used and misused to describe a frivolous lawsuit and referenced in conjunction with tort reform efforts.[2] It argued that corporations have spent millions distorting certain tort cases in order to promote tort reform.[3]

To be clear, there's a difference between the brew temp (which is the temperature the Keurig heats the water to before pumping it through the grounds), and serving temperature.

But even with that, the reality of the situation is that coffee is supposed to be brewed really hot, and many if not most prefer to consume it very hot as well. They still serve the coffee that hot, they just have better warnings/disclaimers.

As Jesse Ventura once said (when he was governor of MN), "you can't make a law against stupidity"...guess the govt. was telling McDs not to put a stumbling block before the blind.

Aha, but the entire thing is disingenuous. He tries to make it seem absurd that anyone would serve coffe close to boiling temp. Often, when you make coffe you use boiling water.

They're typical media/ marketing. Say it with enough conviction and in the right tone, add a few dramatic images and you can convince people of anything.

Which is why that's so damaging for the company's image and l"h is akin to killing someone.
