All I am saying is we should not blame the current Vatican for past mistakes.
If the proper thing to do is to return these type of items, then we're blaming the current Vatican for it's ongoing mistake.

They didn't necessarily steal it directly, it may have been donated or purchased from those who stole it.
You know, even if by some freak of nature it wasn't stolen, it would still be appropriate to return it (and other Jewish treasures) as a minimal restitution for the ten thousands of Jewish books and cultural artefacts which were burnt at the personal initiation of various popes.
