Not sure I see the problem, if the embassador's job is to be the go-between the Canadian government and Israel why not chose someone the Israelis won't see as a threat?

I assume there are plenty of people who aren't Jewish who could accomplish that. We are a very pro Israel country.
Why choose someone who could be perceived as having a conflict of interests.

OTOH, I hear this question being offensive if asked about a black or Latino man being an ambassador to [fill in the check] so maybe it's not a fair question

Someone Jewish knows the Israeli mentality a lot better. Precisely because Canada is such a pro Israel country, sending someone with Israel's best intentions in mind doesn't seem like a conflict of interests.
