This is indeed the case. However, while the reasons aren't clear, there are clear sources for the simcha that day and that it has something to do with the Rashbi. Nobody made it up one day as it goes back hundreds and hundreds of years.

So lets get this straight. Badatz claims that consumers are paying 10-15% more for food than they should (They're paying $110-$115 for a $100 product).
To combat this, Badatz charges 10-15% less than COR for their fees. Huh? That would only even things out if the cost of the product was 100% hashgacha fees!!!

If they are correct that the final product is marked up an EXTRA 10-15% just because of exorbitant fees (and they think COR can still break even with a drop in prices so dramatic that it would have a 10-15% affect on the final product price), they would need to drop their fees a lot more to eliminate that!!!

The dumbest part is toward the beginning, when it describes how the price of chicken went up from $9-10 to $14 after the local place went out of business. Really?!? The price went up when the butchers had to start importing the chickens? IT must be the kashrus fees.

I'm all for competition and having the 'challenger' undercut the 'incumbent' by any amount is probably all good for consumers in the end. But the whole idea of kashrus fees having a significant effect on the final price is laughable. This is a quote from the end of the article:
