Qatar Airlines Missed Flight

My brother was supposed to be on QR704 JFK-DOH this morning but he missed the flight. He booked with QR Avios.
QR is telling him they can't rebook him on the next flight tonight and his miles are forfeited.
HUCA or it's a done deal? Any ideas? TY

Why did he miss the flight? Is he at the airport?

Heading to SEZ. He had 2 tickets booked with AA and 2 directly with QR. When he arrived at the airport they said the infant wasn't on the reservation. Which eventually led to missing the flight.
He's still at the airport. QR agents said to call and closed up and left. He called and they said they can't rebook him on tonight's flight.
He canceled his AA and got the miles back. Now he's trying to find another option to get to SEZ.
Found an option on UA, another on Emirates and another on Eithad with AA. He'll probably take that one.
