Should we really be making a separate thread for this?
Does the maker of a thread now OWN the thread?

When you have a question in Halacha referring to monetary issues you should AYLOD not AYLOR. (Open to debate = opening for debate?)

p.s. maybe you should add to the thread name (please clutter!)

AYLOR should almost always be AYLOP(osek)

Should we make a poll?
AYLOD, AYLOR or AYLOP?
Can someone define what each one is meant for?
AYLOD = for money issues.
AYLOP = Regular general Halacha questions.
AYLOR = Hashkafa and Halacha questions where it would be best to ask someone who knows you.
AYLOG(adol) = Hashkafa.
AYLODDF = ALL OTHER QUESTIONS?

Actually, often you can only consult with your LOD, to find out if it is a genuine she'ela, but if it is you need to appear with the other party together at a Beis Din or by the dayan to get a psak that conforms with halacha. Otherwise, he can at best offer advice.

Had a funny case where a guy found my mifi device (derech hinuach) and put up a hashavas aveida sign, then someone told him that it was ossur to return it so he asked his Rav who concurred. I pointed out to him that lechora he doesn't have the right to follow that psak without the Rav hearing my case at the same time as he said his, a point that he had come to on his own between our two conversations. At the advice of a dayan I spoken to, I suggested that he give the device to RBs, and this he was maskim to. RBs asked me a few questions about how it was used and then gave it right back to me.
I held back the urge to call him the next day and yell at him for giving such a treifa device, that no one is free from temptation of, to one of the Gedolei Hador, which could possibly ruin him for life.

Many years ago I looked for a source that this was the reason and couldn't find one. I am know that my search at the time was not thorough at all, but do you have a source for this as the reason?

Always be suspicious of superstitions found in other cultures. They probably have nothing to do with Judaism.

Any legitimate source for this? Also a superstition found in other cultures.

I don't know, maybe I am one and maybe not, but he didn't want to return it because of lifnei iver (mifi device).

From my notes
Quote
2. Machzor Vitri warns us not to cut our nails in order. This is brought in several Rishonim and Acharonim after him. The Mishna Berura says that this is a din lechatchila, though there are a few meikilim.
   A. The danger of not doing so? Machzor Vitri says it causes forgetfulness, poverty, a bad name, and that one will bury his children, chas veshalom.
   B. Although it is a machlokes if this applies to toenails, most are meikil. Oddly, there are a few sources that say infants are not a problem. However, R’ Chaim Kanievsky says they are.
