according to the chest pounding Israelis, the entire airport and all civilian planes were destroyed today (just now). Mazal Tov.

However, according to Wikipedia and other sources, the airport was in disuse, really, for decades. So what exactly was accomplished?

Deterrence for Iran, motivating them to surrender more in negotiations and lowering their risk appetite when they counter strike.
Training for Iran.
Internal Israeli politics, appeasing the population.

The Houthi terrorists themselves are happy with this attack, it does them very little damage (especially compared to the damage done to TLV) while increasing their domestic support. The real damage will be a naval blockade which will cut them off from irreplaceable necessary supplies.

Wikipedia doesn't say that it was being used for terror purposes, well I guess that settles it. Must have just been a chest thumping move by Israel.

That's a really poor reading of Wikipedia. It was an active airport. Also shared its runway with some sort of airforce base.
Google has been REALLY fast at updating the info box. Wasn't this way a couple of hours ago

I heard that yesterday they had approximately 25-50 flights. They just forgot to update the arrivals and departures schedules

They are claiming the cancelation was out of the airlines control.

I protest! This is the second time. The first time was when Hamas was “deterred,” due to the massive blows it received from Israel in their May 2021 clash.

...since then all has been peace... I mean pieces...
