Sure, but there are people who have "invested" over $100,000 in this deal...seems like that's just asking for trouble.
wow  :o :-X :-\

Do you have personal knowledge of anyone who put that amount of money in?  If not, I highly doubt anyone has done that amount.
Personaly, my main fear is that US Air leaves the StarAlliance.  Seeing how close United and COntinetal are becoming and this quote from Continental's CEO about possible mergers:  "We can always jump in the ring if we need to," US Air might feel left out and leave the alliance.  Then their miles are pretty much junk because who wants to fly US Air anyways!
That being said I am in for 450K miles, hoping also Amex will take the merchandise I bought as return protection.
I was initially in for 1 million more miles than that but I got cold feet and decided I would not be using those miles in the near future so I returned the merchandise.

Hi

I also dont think anyone in his right mind would buy such a big amount, I think my 20000 Dollars were alot. But there are some gamblers out there, but without proof I highly doubt it.
One person cant fly that much, if he is planning on selling tickets, he would have to open up tens of accounts, so not to be flagged. Diffrent names, diffrent Cc for all purchases. Possible, yes. Likely, no.
I also think the biggest fear is US leaving the alliance or going bankrupt. Leaving the aliance, will not happen from one day to the next, so we should have some warning.

There is no deal, thats 100% safe.

Yes.
Of course the goods can be donated to limit the total money at risk, but it's definitely a small risk, albeit with a large upside.

Ok, for a guy that travels to the far east twice a month and take someone along, its not that much. He will burn 500000 miles a month, within a year 6 million.

Anyone who read through the FT Thread would not have to much calms about getting in on this. There have been several responses from the CEO of TIB and customer service at US both of whom have basically admitted that they understand that this whole promo is just a gift-wrapped way of selling miles to bring in revenue. Even the email I received personally from the CEO states "We trust that we helped you achieve your individual Dividend Miles goal.". He went on to ask me what my personal preference would be should TIB work out an agreement with another airlines for a similar deal.

So no, I am not worried about the validity of this even a bit

I dont think people are asking for trouble. The deal will come through, but its alot of miles for personal use. I am sure US will monitor accounts with big amounts, so he cant really sell them. He will have to use them for himself and hope US will not leave star alliance soon or go bankrupt.

They can do whatever they want. They just updated their chart for 2010. Not to many changes. business to europe went up to 100k, but nothing really bad. So i doubt they will change it again in 2010.

Also they charge the only fuel surcharge on award tickets of any US airline and could raise it at any time.

Actually US airways is very good with taxes.
If I book a flight with Lufthansa miles, lets say Zrh-Jfk I have about 300 Dollars Taxes. The same ticket issued with US miles, its about 70 Dollars. So for star alliance tickets, no complaining

Sure, anything compared to European airlines will look good...
Are you sure US is only $70 with their $50 fuel surcharge, sounds very low?

yes they can change it, but why should they punish millions of people, just because a couple of 1000 got a good deal. Was a great deal. Comparing to the amount of people that are US customers and the amount that got some cheap miles, its nothing
