Whatever i found so far was by searching on JewishGen without specifying town. Once i got the results according to name, i narrowed it down manually by reading through the records and seeing if the towns matched to the info i know about the family.

It is possible that either a) there were no records yet at that time (although i find this unlikely. Rather i think it's not transcribed yet/I haven't found them yet.) or b) the family moved there from somewhere else during that time.
Any leads would be helpful.

I actually gave this a cursory look when I first heard about and didn't find much. I just looked again this afternoon and wow. Even without buying any records I found a ton of new information!

Anyone know when the 1950 census data will be released? I was supposed to be released in April but seems to have been delayed...

According to the 72-Year Rule," the National Archives releases census records to the general public 72 years after Census Day. "As a result, the 1950 census records will be released in April 2022." Do you remember where you saw that it would be released this year? Everything I see says 2022, but there were calls for volunteers to start earlier on putting together an index of every US address, so that when the 1950 census does come out, it will be searchable by address.

You may be able to get FREE access to ancestry.com until the end of September (at least). Even for those not interested in genealogy, it can provide a few hours of entertainment during the long summer days, looking for where your ancestors were decades ago.

Many libraries subscribe to the Library Edition of Ancestry, which you can use for free if you're sitting in the library, and now they've made it accessible remotely to anyone with a library card. You need to first check if your local library has it, and then you'll need to enter the serial number of your library card to use it.

The Library Edition has passenger lists of immigrants, census records until 1940, phone and address directories, military records, school yearbooks, and more. The Library Edition does NOT include the ability to post your personal family tree.

Have you exhausted free resources? There are many, including gracious volunteers on Geni, Ancestry, jewishgen, etc.

Ask for more information on specific profiles from site managers, help with translating civil records. I have had people help me locate microfilms which can be tricky.

Jewishgen is helpful if you already have the records and are looking to have them translated. Which geographic areas are you researching?
