But maybe they value paying their teachers more?

Oh so altruistic.
Kill the parents to overpay the teachers based on some silly value system

How do you rationalize this?

Because it's not solve silly value system. And because they don't want to attract only the people who couldn't make it elsewhere reaching their children?
And because they value someone with higher education and advanced training teaching their children?

How do you fundraise for a privately owned entity? (Both from a legal standpoint, as well as how do you have gumption to ask someone to give you free money)
Mandatory parlor meetings. Pay to play. "You want your kid/grandkid in yeshiva..." "We are going to honor you at rhe dinner this year."
Fair warning - Any PMs sent in response to forum posts are fair game for ridicule in public.

Ok wtvr. If they want to pay for it it's their prerogative I guess.

It all depends on what the parent wants their kid to get out of school. Most of the parents that send their kids to Ramaz for $30k/year (or whatever it costs these days) want their kids to get into Ivy League colleges, and many Ramaz kids do because of the apparently high level of education there.

I hope that their roi is worth it. - that's an awfully large amount of ca$h to spend on education.

The extra $300k that K-12 would cost + the extra $150k college may cost can be offset in one year of extra earning potential.
Who do you think you are fooling? You think you are going to pull a quick one on your Creator? Good luck with that.

Yup. Some of these kids are getting ridiculously good jobs out out of college. Plus, I'm sure a lot of them get college scholarships.

Lol. Exactly why I used the words "some" and "a lot of them." No guarantees. Just increased odds.

I'm not aware of any yeshiva day school that isn't a 501c3.

So if by privately owned, you mean an independent org and not controlled by a larger org, that doesn't bother me.

We have been going off topic, but I know a bit about both lakewood and modox day schools (having relatives in faculty and administrative positions at both). Aside for the differences mentioned above, which are significant, one thing that I'd like to point out is secular studies teachers are more expensive than judaic studies teachers. Most modox schools pay the same for both, but the wages are similar to what public school teachers get paid (50k-70k) as opposed to half that. Modox teachers also are more often full time and receiving benefits (again, more similar to public school). My point is that the wage difference isn't just they want to pay the teachers a living wage, it's also that the market for what they prioritize demands higher wages (or you'll get crappy teachers).

Here is a good reason to go to law school.  :P

If law school would give someone a הווא אמינא to take off yarmulka, then the entire thing might not be worth it!

As for the plea bargain - that is the standard M.O. for these Long Island towns and villages. No attorney needed, the prosecutor is there to offer you a plea deal that will end up putting $$$ in the town coffers rather than slapping you with points.

The NYC equivalent of this are the Cash Registers aka traffic cameras: Red Light, "speeding" (if you can call going over 25 mph in a main traffic artery with multiple lanes, a wide pedestrian divider and a service lane speeding) and bus lanes. It's all about economics. Get the city coffers filled without getting motorists too outraged (if points were involved, none of this nonsense would last too long).

Years ago when I was faced with a similar scenario in a town on L.I. I was told to write out the check to "Justice, town of..." It was very hard to resist the urge to ad "in" before the "justice".
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!
