I commuted from Lakewood to Penn and I know of a few others that did. Mixed results.

Why is commuting to school any different then to a job? Many ppl commute to NYC/ pa from Lakewood
Because Law School often requires many hours of studying after and before school. So commuting can hurt those results.

This is true.  And first year law school is intense.

Still, I can't help but chuckle at law students who think their situation is hard, when the only hard thing about law school is what after you graduate.

coming from yeshiva i had no idea how good penn is, esp for real corporate law (they have a few great corp law profs and a good dept with a great setup with regular access to the Delaware justices for lots of special symposiums etc which is a treat). but of course living in ny vs Lakewood philly is a consideration for frum peeps esp with family/wanting to date.Do you know guys who commuted? Is it realistic?
I commuted from Monsey to LIC for a year. Wife and two kids. Not easy.

Different type of intense. I commute over an hour every morning to work, and while I definitely don't love it, I do it, but would have never done it while in 1L.

People do it, but I wouldn't recommend living in Lakewood if you're in Penn. Live in Lower Merion, it's actually a really nice community and anyone that lives there loves it.

Just started CLS commuting from lakewood, and my grades are still in the top 5% of the class... ;)
What does this mean? It's September, so you don't have grades yet. Further, CLS doesn't publish rankings.

Any advice on preferred test center locations from the NJ area? Temple vs Seton Hall? I've seen some people writing about terrible experiences at some locations due to tiny desks or being ridiculously late...?

Found this site simugator.com but it doesn't have Seton Hall, and seems to be a bit different because the reviewers are not for Shabbos test...Found this wiki with pretty bad reviews of Seton Hall.

I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

went to a JLSA lunch and noticed few "frum" girls. is it impossible for "frum" (i.e. beis yaakov/planning to marry a black hatter) girls to go through law school and then big law successfully? seems its hard enough being a mom or frum, but with 2 strikes its just not worth it?

Seems like you can count the "sheitels in biglaw" on one hand.

At Davis Polk, their first female partner was also an orthodox woman. She's retired now, living in Bnei Brak and London. https://www.davispolk.com/professionals/lydia-kess/

There are two more associates I know at the firm in New York, both wear sheitels.

i have the same perspective, but you would think there are certain women who are geared to the work and are forced to miss out because it just isnt practical. similar to my issue with not being an R&B superstar.

Is it sad you can't be an r and b superstar?

This is a famous argument when it comes to the gender wage gap. Men are willing to sacrifice more overall for higher paying positions.

many times only because they are lucky to have superhero wives who run a house and sometimes work too at a decreased pay level... we are all just counting the days til we retire.
