They can be bought in many stores in London, or online. These days one can use contactless credit cards instead of Oyster.(Check here to see if your foreign contactless card will work.)

-Here is a handy planner for the public transport system.

-DD's Kosher Sandwiches can be bought in most major airports and stations and at some supermarkets around London.  Check here for a list of locations.

-Kosher in the West End/City -

Yarmulke is fine in almost the whole London.

Yarmulke is fine in almost the whole London.

Maybe not around parts of Tower Hamlets/South/East London but as tourists you're unlikely to go there anyway. Fine in North and Central London.

Planning  a trip this summer. I can either stay in Hendon at the Pillar Hotel for Shabbos and then move to central london on points or Stay 5 nights in central london (get 5th night free at a marriott) and spend shabbos near the marble arch shul. The only issue is the food for Shabbos. We would be arriving Friday at noon (at Heathrow) so what would be the best option as far as food for Shabbos if we stay near the Marble Arch? Can I can order food and have it delivered to the hotel? Is there somewhere in Central London to pick up food for Shabbos and a hotplate? Aside from food is there any other considerations I am missing when deciding where to stay for Shabbos? Thanks.

I'd stay in central London. Hermolis will deliver to your hotel (with delivery charge). I think Selfridges will also, but not sure - need to check. Hermolis can do very nice cold meals (with wine and challot), not sure about renting hotplate but doubtful.

If i were you I'd stay at the Pillar because then you don't need to worry about food and there are a million shuls on the doorsteps of all hats and sizes. Plus no eruv in Central London.

As far as finding a shul that's more heimish or more 'my style's that doesn't really concern me. (Unless the shul in central London is problematic in the mechitza or something in regard to halacha). Just curious, Why do you say we wouldnt have to worry about food? At the Pillar they can order it and provide disposable utensils but they charge a fortune. £60/person/meal. That's 240 for shabbos. Seems a bit crazy to me. The only convenience I see is that if I want to pick up my own food and eat at the Pillar where they provide disposables water grape juice and hotplate ( £30 /meal or 60 for shabbos) I am located close to takeout options.  Do you still recommend staying in Hendon?

Also, eiruv isn't an issue because we aren't travelling with kids.
We arrive at LHR at noon. I dont know when stores close erev shabbos, do you think we have ample time to get to Hendon, check in, and pick up food for shabbos? If we decided on central London, is there somewhere there to pick up food ( even if we order hermolis but something to snack on over shabbos)? Thanks.

The shul in Marble Arch is United Synagogue. This isn't a problem for me as I'm a US member but I don't know your level, and in Hendon you have US/MO/Chabad/Sephardi/Charedi etc so far more choice. MArble Arch is also where the former Chief Rabbi Jonathan Sacks used to daven (possibly still does) so there's no issue in terms of mechitza (women are upstairs anyway).

In terms of food, I don't know what the Pillar charge but what I meant was it takes the hassle out of it for you albeit pricey. There is a big Chabad in Hendon 5 mins walk away so expect they could hook you up for meals?

Most kosher shops in London close 1-2 hours before Shabbos but bear in mind that even in the middle of summer, most shuls (certainly US) bring in Shabbos by 7.30pm, you'll struggle to find too much open past 6pm or so (unless you're in a big supermarket like Tesco for example).

Only place really in Central London is the Hermolis stand in Selfridges although I don't know what time they're open until - you're best off contacting Hermolis. There is Reubens too, I expect they can help (although pricey).

You would probably be fine - just - if you went to Hendon to check in and pick up food but I think you'd be leaving it tight if you were checking into Central London then going to Hendon.

If you're looking for somewhere with a Shabbos 'atmosphere', Hendon is far better (albeit not particularly pretty) as there are thousands of frum jews about. You can also walk into GG and even up to Golders Hill Park which is beautiful. If you prefer to do a bit of sightseeing on Shabbos afternoon then CL is a better bet.

We stayed at the Marriott Marble Arch, Davened at Marble Arch Synagogue (normal frum shul) and got food from Reuben's. Did not warm it up. I think there was a kiddush by day, but I can't recall. Unfortunately, I never got to that TR yet.

If staying in central london I think easiest is just to order direct from Hermolis - www.hermolis.com . you can order exactly what you want, at around 10-15 pounds per meal - eg cold cuts + salads, salmon, fried fish, deserts, sandwiches plus challot and wine/grape juice. I think delivery is around 20 pounds per order total, and food will be waiting for you packaged nicely on plates and with disposables etc.

What hotels are in an Eruv? Preferably closer to an area with things to do? Have 5 nights, so would prefer a marriott 50k or under to take advantage of 5th night free. Hyatt and IHG OK as well.

Eta - apperently there's not much in the eruv except a HI express, a best Western, and independent hotels.

Now looking for recs on best Marriott or Hyatt property I'm city center, and I will move to Hendon or GG for shabbos. If Marriott, looking for 50k or less per night. If Hyatt, preferably one that provides a free kosher breakfast to a GOH.

Also, is there much food downtown or would I need to travel to the Jewish area to get it?

The only food downtown is Reubens Deli and the Hermolis booth at the Selfridges food court. The Jewish area is a royal shlep. A roundtrip taxi cost 100-140 GBP.

The only food downtown is Reubens Deli and the Hermolis booth at the Selfridges food court. The Jewish area is a royal shlep. A roundtrip taxi cost 100-140 GBP.
I stayed at the Andaz and took the Tube to GG for dinner. Wasnt a shlep at all as the Tube station is right out the Andaz' front door. Was a great experience staying there too. Well worth the price then. I dont know what it costs now.
