-If you plan on using public transportation, get an Oyster card. They are much cheaper and easier to use than conventional travel cards, and never expire. They can be bought in many stores in London, or online. These days one can use contactless credit cards instead of Oyster.(Check here to see if your foreign contactless card will work.)

-Here is a handy planner for the public transport system.

-DD's Kosher Sandwiches can be bought in most major airports and stations and at some supermarkets around London.  Check here for a list of locations.

-Kosher in the West End/City -
Selfridges food hall has a variety of kosher groceries and prepackaged ready food by 1701.
Hermolis  also have a deli counter there.  The range includes schnitzels, spring rolls, kebabs, breaded lamb chops, chicken wings, fish products and salads. Traditional Shabbat dishes will be on sale on Thursdays and Fridays. Supervision is provided by the Kashrut Division London Beth Din
In the City Munch'n'Crunch have a stand in Hatton Garden with kosher meals, sandwiches, sushi and coffee. It is located at 32 Hatton Garden, on the lower-ground floor of Jewellery Emporium. There is also Mincha there at 1:30.

-Kosher food at non-kosher hotels, restaurants etc. can be ordered from the following kosher caterers in London. They provide double-wrapped meals to any location and could also match the menu of your location.

-Minyan in the West End could be found at the Marble Arch Synagogue. Shacharis during the week is followed by breakfast, and a kiddush on Shabbos.

-Most food products in general stores do not have a hechsher on them. This does not necessarily mean they are not kosher. For example, Coca-Cola does not have a hechsher, but it is kosher. Here is an online kosher product search that could help. Link to Android app.

I have 2 business meetings coming up in London restaurants where I am only the only kosher person eating. The meetings are at different restaurants but both will be around buckingham palace. I would like to order food on China and have it served along with the others, but I'm not sure which place to order from? They all seem to want a delivery fee of 25-40 pounds, which nearly doubles the price of the meal. I'm willing to pick up the food, but staying near Westminster and will be using public transit. Is Hermolis the best place to order from in this case? TIA

In a strange turn of events, it looks like I'm going to order in from Bevis Marks, the delivery fee is cheaper, the food is priced similar to Hermolis, and I can pick up the food and deal with any issues easier since I'm staying in Central London. Has anyone used Bevis Marks The Restaurant for takeaway on china to a non-kosher restaurant before?

How is Andaz in Liverpool location-wise is it far from kosher places/sights (just need 1 good one)? Looking into doing 2 nights in London on way home from Israel and the Regency is under construction and not letting us redeem free nights.

For sightseeing the location is good. For minyan it is terrible. For Kosher food, you are not close to anything (the Regency is close to Reuben's, but nothing else)
Life isn't about checking the boxes. Nobody cares.

Actually, if you are into Sephardi davening the location is great. There is a daily minyan at 7:15 at Bevis Marks with free breakfast afterwards. Beautiful shul. There is also a kosher restaurant close by (the one at the shul is closed, there is another 2 minutes walk away)

As of now we'll only have one day in London on which we can see the changing of the guard ceremony, possible with Fun London Tours (with Matt).  At the same time it's also the only day we can take the Free Tour of London.  If we do one tour we will not be able to do the other tour due to our time constraints (our flight from LCY leaves at 6:40pm, so we'd need to be at the airport at 4:45/5:00p or so?).

My question is: Which tour is better for a first time visitor to London (I've been, DW hasn't)? I've heard really good things about Matt's tour, but it doesn't really cover some of the "basics" from what I understand.

How long before a LCY-MAD flight (on BA) do I need to be at the airport? We're not checking bags. 60 minute? 90 minute?

ETA: This is from BA.com
Quote
Please ensure you are familiar with the check-in and boarding times used at London City airport as they differ from other London airports.

You must pass through check-in 20 minutes before your flight if you are checking in baggage, or 15 minutes before your flight if you have hand baggage only.

You must be at your boarding gate at least 10 minutes before your flight.

If you do not meet these times, you will not be allowed on to your flight.

Does anyone have personal experience with this? Seems like getting to the airport even 45 minutes before the flight is too much time.

I thought that it covered alot of basics-the tour starts as a walking tour before it reaches any of the changing of the guard area and he tells you what all the squares and statues are and who lived where, etc... and then comes the whole changing of the guard tour-I found it to be an amazing and informative tour....

Just because it was informative and a great overall tour does not make it the best option. when you only have time to do one tour, I would think the goal is to see as many major sights as possible.

True, but I may have time for two tours. On the other hand, if the free your covers a lot of things Matt's tour covers it may be a bit of a repeat. If we just do one though I may agree with you (having not do Matt's tour).

There are generally two ways of doing things seeing everything but not really getting any depth, and seeing less things more thoroughly different people enjoy differently. I would imagine that the in depth tour would not be boring even if you already "toured" these sights.

As a side note  I spent a week in London and on the last night did a night bus tour that was very quick but covered most area's.  I immediately regretted not doing the tour on my first day there because it gives me a whole picture of the city which I  could have then gone and experienced separated (instead I experienced many of these sights separately and then got the whole picture which I realized afterwards was backwards)

I hear ya. I've done the bus tour of London the last time I was there, and it was a great tour. This time we thought doing the walking tour would be enough (DW hasn't been to London before). I'm not sure what you mean by the bold above. Are you assuming the shorter, changing of the guard tour is more detailed?

From what I understood I thought it was a shorter more In depth tour I guess I misunderstood...  The night bus was great as all the buildings were beautifully lit up great picture taking opportunity.

I'm not sure, but from what I understood the shorter tour just went to a few places before the changing ceremony. We will only have one night in London (Thu night is booked, Fri/Sat are out, Sun night we leave), so the night tour is not an option, but thanks for the idea.

check out Matt's website (he is the tour guide)-funlondontours.com-it seems like some things have changed since I did the tour as he now offers another tour which he says compliments the changing of the guard tour called the essential london tour-which also covers all the important sites and squares-maybe email him and see if you can do both that day with him....

I did see that, but I was confused. It starts at 9:50 and ends 11:40, while the changing tour starts at 10:10. It's also showing as unavailable until August, presumably because of the changing tour taking place then. Also, the essential tour says it covers Trafalgar Square (but I don't know if the Changing tour covers it as well on days the essential tour aren't offered.

I already emailed Matt and asked him what the changing tour covers. I'm waiting to hear back. Do you remember where the changing tour went before the actual ceremony?
