They can be bought in many stores in London, or online. These days one can use contactless credit cards instead of Oyster.(Check here to see if your foreign contactless card will work.)

-Here is a handy planner for the public transport system.

-DD's Kosher Sandwiches can be bought in most major airports and stations and at some supermarkets around London.  Check here for a list of locations.

-Kosher in the West End/City -

-Minyan in the West End could be found at the Marble Arch Synagogue. Shacharis during the week is followed by breakfast, and a kiddush on Shabbos.

-Most food products in general stores do not have a hechsher on them. This does not necessarily mean they are not kosher. For example, Coca-Cola does not have a hechsher, but it is kosher. Here is an online kosher product search that could help. Link to Android app.

From the Wiki,
"-If you plan on using public transportation, get an Oyster card. They are much cheaper and easier to use than conventional travel cards, and never expire. They can be bought in many stores in London, or online. These days one can use contactless credit cards instead of Oyster.(Check here to see if your foreign contactless card will work.)"

The foreign cards link doesn't work. Updated link or info?

Here's the updated link - https://tfl.gov.uk/fares-and-payments/contactless/what-are-contactless-payment-cards?intcmp=8610#on-this-page-1.

I've updated the wiki.

My brother in law just stayed at Andaz. He said "Went to eat at 6pm, long bus ride got there 7pm tons of traffic. I think 2 trains would've been better. Train back to andaz was great. I think staying in West London instead of East is better if you'll be going to golders green"

Traffic in the West End is a fact of life. Trains would've been the smarter choice.

I have a 5.5 hours connection in LHR. Is it possible to go into the city and see something (and not miss my connecting flight)?

Windsor castle would be the only shot, but keep in mind that walks inside LHR can be as long as 20+ minutes
Life isn't about checking the boxes. Nobody cares.

Still debating pros/cons of the Park Tower, Andaz, and Hyatt Regency. Nobody here has stayed at the Andaz?

Would love to hear feedback. Traveling with Rafi (4) and Talia (2).

Thursday:
Arriving Thursday at 7:50am into LHR.
Do I try to go straight to Windsor Castle? Use an Uber to bring luggage to hotel? Checkin to hotel and then shlep back out to Windsor Castle later in the day?

Friday:
Tower of London/Tower bridge/London bridge.

Shabbos:

Sunday:

Matt's Changing of the Guards tour (Whitehall Horse Guards?)
Hamleys or Herrods?
London transport museum or Museum of London or Science Museum?
London Eye.

Monday:

Harry Potter

Tuesday:
Departing 10:15am from LHR.

Seems like I'll punt on Churchill War Rooms, London Dungeon, and Stonehenge as they're not great for kids.

Kidzania seems neat, not sure if my kids are too young though?
Hyatt Regency is under construction, but open per their website. That should be an easy choice to avoid. I'm debating between the Andaz and the Park Tower myself. For me its the difference between SPG that I cannot presently replace vs UR that I can.
Fair warning - Any PMs sent in response to forum posts are fair game for ridicule in public.

I don't get it. GMaps says Andaz to GG is a single 20 minute train.
Closer than the west end hotels.

35-40 minutes travel to GG.

Andaz was great but far from a lot of things. The shul near Andaz is a 10 minute walk, doesn't always have a minyan during the week.

He says better to stay near Buckingham Palace.
I remember when a coke was a nickel, and you could buy VRs in OD.

Dan, You haven't mentioned where you plan on eating out. I have seen in the last 60 pages here that one thing is for sure. There is NO food in London. What are your plans?

I can't imagine it's easy to go to the Castle with luggage and straight off the plane. While it's out of the way to settle into the hotel, it shouldn't deter you from taking a minute to settle in. Once you're in the city, you could also get a tour bus so that you don't need to worry about how to get their on your own.

Friday:
Tower of London/Tower bridge/London bridge.
London Bridge is in America. Tower Bridge is the one right next to the Tower of London. Good Friday activity choice.

Shabbos:

Sunday:

Matt's Changing of the Guards tour (Whitehall Horse Guards?)
Hamleys or Herrods?
London transport museum or Museum of London or Science Museum?
London Eye.
Changing of the Guards is pretty late in the morning (unfortunately), so keep that in mind with how much you plan to accomplish that day. IINM Whitehall takes place at the same time, so you can't see both in 1 day, but you can walk to Whitehall afterwards to see the horseguards that stick around afterwards. Don't know anything about the other items on the list.

Monday:

Harry Potter
Amazing activity. Hope you enjoy!

Good point about these items not being great for kids.

Hamleys or Herrods?
Dinner at ?

London transport museum or Museum of London or Science Museum or or Kidzania?
London Eye at dusk.

Thursday:

Checkin to Park Tower, Andaz, or Hyatt Regency.

Assuming you take a late morning/early afternoon tour, you'll be back quite late (6-8p) so it may be easier to get DDs for dinner.

Friday:
Tower of London/Tower bridge.
Shabbos food delivery from justkosher and/or 1701.

Motzei Shabbos:
Hamleys or Herrods?
Dinner at ?
Good idea going to Harrods at night. Shabbos ends early enough. If you want, there's a Sainsburys accross the street from Harrods open until 11:30p that has DD sandwiches.

Sunday:
Matt's Changing of the Guards tour/end of Whitehall Horse Guards
London transport museum or Museum of London or Science Museum or or Kidzania?
London Eye at dusk.
Dinner at ?

Monday:
Harry Potter
Dinner at ?0
HP is an all day event. If you're going with a tour you will be dropped off in London, but if you drive yourself you drive right through Hendon and pass some kosher restaurants that are literally on the same road. May be a consideration if you really want to go out to eat and don't want to backtrack, but it's not the cheapest option for sure.

Tuesday:
Departing 10:15am from LHR.

Seems like I'll punt on Churchill War Rooms, London Dungeon, and Stonehenge as they're not great for kids.

I've been to la fiesta a couple of times.  Always enjoyed their food.  Mostly remember their meats and lamb. And they serve it on a bed of coals.  Really neat.
