-If you plan on using public transportation, get an Oyster card. They are much cheaper and easier to use than conventional travel cards, and never expire. They can be bought in many stores in London, or online. These days one can use contactless credit cards instead of Oyster.(Check here to see if your foreign contactless card will work.)

-Here is a handy planner for the public transport system.

-DD's Kosher Sandwiches can be bought in most major airports and stations and at some supermarkets around London.  Check here for a list of locations.

-Kosher in the West End/City -
Selfridges food hall has a variety of kosher groceries and prepackaged ready food by 1701.
Hermolis  also have a deli counter there.  The range includes schnitzels, spring rolls, kebabs, breaded lamb chops, chicken wings, fish products and salads. Traditional Shabbat dishes will be on sale on Thursdays and Fridays. Supervision is provided by the Kashrut Division London Beth Din
In the City Munch'n'Crunch have a stand in Hatton Garden with kosher meals, sandwiches, sushi and coffee. It is located at 32 Hatton Garden, on the lower-ground floor of Jewellery Emporium. There is also Mincha there at 1:30.

-Minyan in the West End could be found at the Marble Arch Synagogue. Shacharis during the week is followed by breakfast, and a kiddush on Shabbos.

-Most food products in general stores do not have a hechsher on them. This does not necessarily mean they are not kosher. For example, Coca-Cola does not have a hechsher, but it is kosher. Here is an online kosher product search that could help. Link to Android app.

And how long from Andaz to Moorgate?

Isola actually looks like a decent choice but we are not big fans of milchig restaurants.

IB also has/had a decent selection of Thai fusion dishes so you're not limited to milchig. Across from that you have White House which is fleishig fast food, but that can get noisy and crowded. A couple of doors down from White House is Met Su Yan (asian).

Nu, so how was it? I'm heading out that way this Thursday BH.
I remember when a coke was a nickel, and you could buy VRs in OD.

Slow writing TR but this is short version. Andaz great choice. Right by Liverpool Street Station. Like being next door to Grand Central or Penn Station. Hotel was beautiful. Staff messed something up and refunded entire stay because of their screwup.
Sights need more thorough report. Saw lots in 3 days. Didnt get on the Eye. 3 hour wait was too much. Windsor Castle, Tower of London, Tower Bridge, Parliament Square, Harrods, British Museum, Changing of the Guard were all great.
Took a cab and double-decker bus just to say we did.

Underground is very easy to navigate.

Uber was very inexpensive from Andaz to LHR 37pounds. Got 20% off using Quicksilver too!!

Had a hard time finding D&D sandwiches but finally found them right across from Andaz in Tesco. Used Kosher Near Me App. Very helpful.

Ate at Met Su Yan. Make sure you have reservations. They were nasty about us having to leave by a certain time even though they weren't full. Saw them treat others poorly as well. Portions were very small and overpriced. Some diahes were very tasty and others tastless.

Next night we went to Isola Bella. HUGE portions, a bit pricey too. Tasty Thai dish, avoid gnocchi, fish was ok. Would recommend.

Will work on TR and pics

Thanks for the mini-TR. Anyone think it should be included in the TR list, or just wait for the full TR?

Well now I'm really bummed we didn't make in November.
Takes away most of the Andaz advantage for sure.

What did they do so bad that merited a full refund?

I didnt ask for any specific refund amount. Here is the long and short of it. It was my wife's birthday. I ordered a kosher birthday cake which i arranged to be picked up by the driver who picked us up at the airport and dropped off at the hotel. Emails back and forth with the hotel about specifics of dropping off and presentation of cake, with flowers which the hotel ordered for 25 pounds for me. It was all to be a surprise for my wife. The trip was a semi surprise which i told her about on Chanukah.

We went to Windsor Castle straight from the airport and our driver dropped off the luggage and cake at the hotel. We showed up later in the afternoon and the check-in clerk had diarrhea of the mouth. He couldnt shut up. He read through the copious notes that were in the system and said "Oh I see there is a cake and flowers here for your room." Surprise ruined.

So i asked him to send up the cake and flowers right away. Went to the room, no cake no flowers.  We took a nap, no cake, no flowers. We went to dinner in Golders Green and returned the flowers appeared, stunning. Asked for the cake again, no cake. Knock on the door, the hotel delivered their own birthday cupcake on a tile with a Happy birthday message. Needless to say, we never saw the cake i ordered.

Contacted the hotel after we checked out and they said, oops its still in the fridge. Full refund, points and cash.

Andaz was very advantageous because of Tube access.

Yikes! That's unfortunate they were so incompetent, though at the end of the day, which would you have preferred: a good surprise or a free stay?

Sounds like typical Andaz service, bummer.

London needs a PH!

How was going to the castle right from the airport? Would love to see a full TR with costs and suggestions.

Dont know about going with kids straight off a flight but it was the smartest thing we did. Its 25 min from LHR vs an hour plus from Andaz.

Im working furiously on TR. Will skip pics for now and just post narrative for the benefit of the tzibur. Going to get my tooth pulled now. You guys pulling teeth here helped relieve some anxiety.

Trust me...the wife was way happier with free stay.

As I would have been. Looking forward to the actual TR, though I think including pics as you go is better than doing them later. Don't feel like you have to get it all out today. I'd rather see it in installments over a few days with pictures as you go than to see all the pictures later.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I just keep the pics on snapfish/shutterfly and post links from there (and skip flikr all together).
