-If you plan on using public transportation, get an Oyster card. They are much cheaper and easier to use than conventional travel cards, and never expire. They can be bought in many stores in London, or online. These days one can use contactless credit cards instead of Oyster.(Check here to see if your foreign contactless card will work.)

-Here is a handy planner for the public transport system.

-DD's Kosher Sandwiches can be bought in most major airports and stations and at some supermarkets around London.  Check here for a list of locations.

-Kosher in the West End/City -
Selfridges food hall has a variety of kosher groceries and prepackaged ready food by 1701.
Hermolis  also have a deli counter there.  The range includes schnitzels, spring rolls, kebabs, breaded lamb chops, chicken wings, fish products and salads. Traditional Shabbat dishes will be on sale on Thursdays and Fridays. Supervision is provided by the Kashrut Division London Beth Din
In the City Munch'n'Crunch have a stand in Hatton Garden with kosher meals, sandwiches, sushi and coffee. It is located at 32 Hatton Garden, on the lower-ground floor of Jewellery Emporium. There is also Mincha there at 1:30.

-Kosher food at non-kosher hotels, restaurants etc. can be ordered from the following kosher caterers in London. They provide double-wrapped meals to any location and could also match the menu of your location.

Zmanim - MyZmanim London

Minyanim - There are many shuls all over London, however there are a couple of places that have more constant Minyanim throughout the day.

R' Chuna's (Beth Shmuel Synagogue)

Stamford Hill

Here is a list of addresses and zmanim for the above, and other places.

-Minyan in the West End could be found at the Marble Arch Synagogue. Shacharis during the week is followed by breakfast, and a kiddush on Shabbos.

-Most food products in general stores do not have a hechsher on them. This does not necessarily mean they are not kosher. For example, Coca-Cola does not have a hechsher, but it is kosher. Here is an online kosher product search that could help. Link to Android app.

In case it's helpful to anyone... A new kosher restaurant opened in London a few weeks ago: Deli West One (http://thedelilondon.com/). Haven't been there myself, but a welcome addition to the very few options within the city proper.

Might be OT, but which PriorityPass lounge should I visit at T3?

There are two SERVISAIR Lounges, and a 'No. 1' lounge.

Or can you answer this question?

Just did a short visit to London… Stayed at the Hyatt Regency / Churchill. If you’ve got Hyatt points to burn, it’s a great hotel (especially if you get on to the Regency floor) in a great location. Couple blocks away from a daily minyan with breakfast at the Marble Arch Synagogue. And walking distance to three kosher food options (Selfridges food court, Deli West One, Reuben’s).

As an aside, flew EWR-LHR in BA's new first class cabin. Actually was the first commercial flight of this 77W aircraft, so was the first customer in that seat.

It is a comfortable hotel in a good location but would not call it great. Maybe that its because in was coming from the Ph Paris and Zurich

Funny you should mention PH Paris - I actually spent the next two nights there. Okay, maybe I was a tad too enthusiastic about the Hyatt Regency Churchill. But to me personally, I guess there's a limit to how good these types of city hotels could be (without resort facilities, unusual character, etc).

4 hour stopover in London heathrow. What to do?
« Reply #167 on: August 25, 2012, 11:56:41 PM »
I have a 4 hour connection in LHR.  What should I do?

Are there any express trains to take me downtown and show kids Big Ben Tower or Buckingham Palace or it's too short?

Too short.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Lol! True story...
And it takes about hour and half to get into town by the subway (tube). And with taxi 30 min but £40.

true, but you can take the heathrow express and be at paddington in 20 minutes. It's expensive (18 pounds, i think) but sometimes there are 2 for 1 coupons and things like that...

4 hours is too short, though. Consider at least 45 minutes to get off the plane and clear passport control (if not longer) and at least an hour to be there before the next leg, you're left with 2 hours 15 minutes, which means you won't have time to do anything...

If anyone finds themselves in Bayswater, West End go visit the New West End Synagogue. It's an orthodox shul and they have minyan (when they get one) in the mornings and on shabbat...there's a chazzan and a choir, the whole experience...it's not golders green or hendon, but it's a nice (if small) community...

Flying out of LHR early morning on 12/25.  Tube won't be running, neither will the Heathrow Express.  I need to get from Finchley to Heathrow by 6AM.  Any ideas?
