I plan on going back to Paris some time next year (Wife + I + Baby). I can go direct from JFK on Sunday morning or I can fly Sat. night to LHR (arrive Sun morn.) and depart to Paris on Monday morning. Giving me about a full day in London...worth the stop?

(i.e. an incredible restaurant would make it a yes)

I don't get people who travel for food. I don't think anything is supposed that amazing.

Some cool sites though, but very expensive. I would say it's definitely worth a day

Hi I'm stopping in London for 12 hours and want to know if there is something special or different that i should not miss! I'm not talking about the basic tourist spots that everyone tells you to do - i mean something different, or amazing to see/go to. THANKS!

I've been in London a bunch of times and last time was my first visit to the Imperial War Museum (Lambeth). It's a fantastic museum if you're a history type. There's also a big center outside of London on a former air force base (IWM Duxford) but that's a serious schlep and not worth it if you're only there for one day.

One thing about the museum in Lambeth: it's not in the greatest area, so if you want to see London city life, take the tube there and walk, otherwise take a cab.

You could buy DD's sandwiches (Hermolis) at the airport. Here is a link to a list of shops that have them.

So I will be having a whole day layover in London this Monday, I land around 8am and leave at 10pm that night.

Suggestions or comments on what to do that day?
Where should I go and where should I go for Lunch then Supper? (I was thinking Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, London Eye (Worth it?)
What time is the changing of the guard? Also how should I get around, how do I get to the main part of town.

Looking forward to getting some good ideas as it would be my first time there. Thanks

Let the ideas start in 3... 2... 1...  (I'm bored at work)

I would definitely do the Tower of London. Buckingham Palace is worth a quick look, we did not see the changing of the guards. London Eye is extremely expensive.

Take the Heathrow Express to the city. It's much quicker than the subway (although also more expensive). Subway around town, make sure to get a day pass or something like that

^That

It is worth making it to Buckingham Palace for changing of the guards (11am) if possible. Walk over to Westminster Bridge to see Big Ben/The Houses of Parliament.  The London Eye could be interesting if the weather is nice, but is definitely expensive. Don't forget horse guards parade in Whitehall to get one of those pictures with the queens life guards.

As for food, Reuben's is a deli in the West End, and Isola Bella is a dairy/fish place in Westfield Mall near Shepherds Bush.
