Will be in London for 10 hours in May...can I get a reccomendation for a good restaurant or two? Preferably in the Golders Green area...thanks!
There is a relatively new restuarant in edgeware that i ate at last night that was very good called popolinas. they have an all you can eat for 25 pounds. comes with dips, salads, sides, duck, lamb, chicken, kufta, spicy beef sausages and steak. the steak wasn't too good but everything else was.

in golders green novelino and isso labella are nice cafes.  A lot of people recommended a meat restaurant in hendon called 86 bistro as the only nice meat place to go in the hendon goldergreen area.

I would HIGHLY recommend the new Isola Bella at the Westfield shopping centre. Much better food, service and ambiance than the one in Hendon (it's dairy btw). Also, you could spend some time shopping in the beautiful mall. If you're venturing into Edgware, try out the Aviv Restaurant (Meat), nothing fancy, but plain good food...

the soup and desserts in Isola Bella westfield are amazing. I found popolinas to be nicer than the aviv once your already going to edgware to eat.

If I was flying BA J/F I would enjoy the great BA lounges and the excellent free kosher food there.
London is an extremely expensive city with mediocre food and attractions IMHO.  I'm not sure what you plan to do at Buckingham Palace except spend time and money to get a look at it.

I had a 12 hr layover there in the fall and had a great time exploring the city. We did tons in a short amount of time and enjoyed it immensely. We took the HeathrowExpress to save time (yes it is very expensive) to get to the city.

Some highlights:

London Eye
British Museum (for only a short time, its massive)
Walk by of Westminster Abbey and Big Ben/Parliament
Trafalgar Square
Buckingham Palace gates/guards view
Selfridges (kosher food inside as well - picked up for lunch)
Marble Arch/Speaker's Corner

We had a great time walking the city and enjoying the day. We also managed to grab a cup of coffee with my cousin who works right near the Tate Modern (we met at the coffee shop on the top floor of the museum overlooking the Thames).

Good times and definitely what to see and do there if you've never been before.

The London Eye is over $30 to go around the Ferris Wheel one time...is that really worth it?
And that's typical of London pricing.

I had a great experience on the London Eye, YMMV.

But in general you're correct, practically everything in London is overpriced.

We had a nice time as well. London is expensive, but once you get over the prices, it is a nice city.

To be fair, I haven't been to London since my teenage days, but I just recall everything being outrageously expensive and the sights being mildly interesting.

I was supposed to connect through LHR on my recent RTW and was planning on just staying in the BA F lounge.  Got rerouted though via SFO which made it moot though.

Things are really expensive and arguably not the best sites, but there are some really great ones. I had already been to London before so I had already been to the Tower of London which is an excellent place to visit. Also, The British Museum is amazing if you put the time into it. For a 12 hour layover it could be worth it to just do one or both of those and then head back to LHR.

Also, if not flying BA F, the Galleries lounges are nice, but don't have the same level of service (or kosher food) that the CCR has.

12 hours isn't really 12 hours when you factor immigration and check-in times.
Anyway just to get from LHR to the tower of london via trains+admission will set you back $100 a person I would estimate.
I can't say that I got $100 worth of enjoyment from the tower of london but YMMV.

I completely understand where you're coming from and would not judge you for making a different decision than I did. Everyone values experiences and opportunities differently (i.e., spending miles on BA knowing the taxes/fees are crazy) and will act accordingly. We had a great time in London, but I could see why people might hesitate to make the same choice.

British Museum is history... even if you don't like history if you are interested in seeing the Rosetta Stone that is where it is housed. Pretty amazing piece of history if you ask me... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosetta_Stone
