how much time would i need from landing to checking back in

I would probably leave room for 90 minutes to clear immigration and customs and 2 hours to checkin again.

Will you bags be checked through?  In MEL on my past trip they wouldn't allow me to recheck my bags until 4 hours before the flight so I had to shlep them with me all day.

I definitely would not count on being at the palace within 80 minutes of scheduled landing!

I figured it would be cutting it tight. but I want to land up in that area anyways, so we'll wait & see what happens.

I don't think you need 90 minutes for immigration and customs, however, LHR is notorious for putting planes in holding patterns prior to landing and therefore you usually land a few minutes late. As such, you may be running behind your scheduled time anyway. 80 minutes is possible with no bags, etc. and assuming you land on time and take the Express. When we went on our day customs/immigration took 15 minutes, but we were in a holding pattern resulting in a slightly delayed landing.

We had things planned on our day and decided that whatever we could get to and were up for doing we would do and if not then not.

90 minutes is factoring for the minor delays that come up.
It will take some luck to be at the palace within 80 minutes of scheduled landing.

the airline told me their going to transfer my luggage for me, should i believe the rep. its virgin connecting to el al.

If you're only riding one zone it isn't much more expensive than NYC (at least it wasn't a few years ago, might've changed since). If you're going to be in London for an extended amount of time, get an Oyster card, that'll save you money.

Unless the whiskey is on a killer special the prices can be beat by the discounters in Brooklyn.
