i need to get a document signed and i dont want to shlep to the consulate. does anyone know of a notary in jerusalem?

I'm assuming you mean a US notary? I can give you an Israeli

id prefer a us notary. if using an israeli one i would have to get the doc “apostilled” (going downtown to the court building in the Russian Compound and having a clerk from the Ministry of Justice stamp the document)

Not sure if the US consulate requires appointments, if no then thats definitely easier. if yes, its impossible (within 2-3 months). Beware Israeli Notaries are required by law to charge 231 shekel (or something like that), and its very hard to get one to waive it. Maybe the Canadian embassy (Tel Aviv) might be a valid notary without an appt. Dunno.

If I understood this correctly a US notary is not allowed to notarize documents outside of his licensing state.

look in the newcomers guide there are several notaries. if its not listed under notaries look under lawyers

Read above, US Notary cannot notarize document outside US.
