I'm going to vote to make sure we see more photo ops, can't get enough of those.
Because the "askunim" said so
Years ago, I was writing press releases for a mosad. They were doing phenomenal stuff, but they always needed the articles to name certain individuals, who apparently scanned news sites to make sure they were getting plenty of coverage.
"What babies!" I thought. "Who could possibly be so childish to care if they were mentioned on COL?"
Now these people were doing amazing work and bettering the lives of hundreds, even thousands of people. Over time I changed my way of thinking, if such a person can accomplish amazing things, and the cost is massaging their ego periodically, it's most certainly worth it.
I'm not perfect. I do some good things and some not so good things. If getting pictures with politicians is the cost of getting help for our community, so be it.
Believe me, I've laughed at a relative who is "an askan" for his desire to be photographed with certain people, it's comical. And then I've seen him walk away from a party to a corner and field phone calls from all sorts within our community who need his help and connections. And help many he has, in numerous ways.
The state of our chinuch is in a very precarious place. Same for police funding, criminal justice reform, and more. These askanim at least did legwork meeting with candidates and expressing our needs and interests. I don't particularly care what their true motivation is, so long as I'm not going to do that job, I'll fargin them the photo ops and try tone down my cynicism.
