When one of the "askunim" didn't vote for trump (his words), I think I can tell if he really cares about our community needs.

Let's see by the governor race what these "askunim" say.

In NY? Why would anyone vote for Trump in NY? Despite what @CountValentine or @Dan might say, the local vote has absolutely 0 impact in the general election. That being said, in the most recent general election voting for Trump was almost like today's special election, no effect but showing where the community support and voice is.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Because you don't know when you'll need his vote for something which really matters to you. You don't need him to be the loudest voice in the room, or to solve all of your issues overnight. Politics isn't about instant gratification; it's a long-game.
The things that really matter to the community this guy ain't voting for. He's going to fall in line with the libtards. You think bc a few lubavitchers voted for him he's going to vote against progressive things

Maybe yes, and maybe no. We will never know. Regardless of whether you or anyone else goes out to vote for him today, he is most likely going to be elected. The point is to show that we vote as a block, and we come out and vote. It's an investment in the future. שלח לחמך...

Serious question: How do vote counts tell them who came out to vote? Is it an increase? Do they have a way of seeing demographic breakdown of voters from some other source?

I don't know why, but I'm breaking my rule and responding to you.

Is he going to sponsor legislation to revoke the bail reform, is he going to sponsor legislation to get board of regents out of our yeshivas? The list goes on and on

Or should I vote for him so the "askunim" can take their pic with a winner?

What good is voting for him if he's not going to get things done that the community needs

You say this, and follow it up with
When one of the "askunim" didn't vote for trump (his words), I think I can tell if he really cares about our community needs.

Let's see by the governor race what these "askunim" say.

I mean, if that doesn't display forward-thinking pragmatism, I don't know what does.

You like to sit with your internet beitzim crusading against "askanim" - who appointed them? No one. Baveiz a chachma, become an askan! Don't just hack about Regents and bail online, publicly endorse the candidates who WILL enact all these policies you want! Heck, run for office! Genug with the mud-slinging without alternatives. Put out an op-ed that shows a clear-headed political agenda. Tell me who YOU would vote for today, and WHY. Trust me, the sites will be only too happy to have an argument on their pages.

When the issue of chinuch comes up, Cunningham will have the words of these askanim ringing in his ears, and the knowledge that he wants (or NEEDS) us to vote for him again next time. Will it be enough? I can't say. But it will certainly be worth more than any bloviating about askanim done here.

Not 100%, but they can see what votes are coming from where, and get a pretty good idea. Jewish Crown Heights historically has very low turnout, with Crystal Hudson voter turnout increased in Jewish areas in a very blatant way, and the votes went to her.

    Welcome to NY  :D

There are many of our own interests, which don’t necessarily conflict with a semi liberal politician.

    Wow.

Special election in middle of March, I think that's to be expected.

Which is exactly why this was such an easy opportunity for us to make a loud statement.

    Wow.

Can you imagine, just one short drive and I was able to make an impact by casting 0.1% of the votes! That's power! This could have been easily scaled up.

I'm so proud of our "askunim" who arranged that in 2 weeks which is 1 week from pesach when ch is very busy that the road pavers will be back to finish paving the road.

    Thank you

Some people prefer to make a very loud mute statement by voting for a third party candidate with 0 chances at a general election...

The askanim are busy dealing with the “big issues”, that these “little issues” get forgotten. Yes, like in that famous joke.

+1 I was surprised not to see any communication from local sources about them doing any construction on the streets.
Didnt they repave the roads recently.

    .

I hope you do realize that this guy would get voted in one way or the other, whether the community would publicly back him or not. And that there is no viable alternative.

One can be smart and try to make the best of the reality of the situation, or one can be principled all the way towards failure.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!
