It's not a change that happens overnight or within a few years. Both sides need to respect each other more. I try commute by bike and have some harrowing stories about drivers which I've posted on this forum already. At the same time, the stereotypical cyclist in Brooklyn is about as narcissistic a jerk as you'll see.
The scooters terrify me. You see kids flying at high speeds, often without helmets, weaving in and out of traffic....

I bike daily to the city. I see both how drivers are terrified of bikers, and bikers who are terrified of all motorized vehicles. At certain parts of Brooklyn (on smith heading to the bridges) it becomes a lawless free for all. The city thinks that adding bike lanes and Citi bikes is going to help everyone. It isnt. It's making more problems for everyone.
If there would be a push for proper education - for both bikers and drivers everything would be better.
The worst are the moped, vestas and motorbike overtaking bikers. They fly by without any notice.
