Paying for a lap child On a business class ticket
« on: February 21, 2012, 12:07:40 AM »
My wife and i are currently booked in united business class to australia using miles. When i called to add our lap child to the reservation i was told the charge for a lap child in business is $1400 which is almost the price of an economy ticket !
Do i just shell out the $ for the lap child, OR buy myself an upgradeable economy ticket for $3100, add the lap child to the reservation while confirmed in economy for $150. And then use my swu to upgrade to business ( would be put on a waitlist ) and hope it clears ?
Any suggestions ?

Use Air Canada miles.

This has been discussed b4, lap child on some airlines is 10% of the cost for a ticket. Maybe get him his own seat with miles.

IIRC you cant book just a lap child without booking a seat. So using AC miles after booking through United is not an option.

It may be cheaper to cancel
The UA ticket and rebook using AC.
And I meant that if he would go that way it may be cheaper to redeem UA miles for the infant seat.

If it's available on CO/UA.com for saver rates then AC can book it.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

From the OP it sounds like they're booked already.

Cancelling the UA res does not guarantee it going back into inventory.

First book the second tickets. Then cancel the first. If its available now that is.

The tickets are already booked
I have never had an easy time finding saver award business seats to australia on united and the only way i was able to book these tickets was when Dan posted about the wide open availability.
Have been checking every other day and i have not found anymore more saver business seats released

Then I am sorry to tell you, you will have to pay. no way around this.

With UA and US miles thats the fact

The last trip I booked I had the same problem, I booked my family with US miles and used aeroplan for myself and the baby. aeroplan charged more miles, but the 30000 miles more +100 Dollar for the infant was better then paying 1550 Dollars that US wanted
