Anyone sign up their infant for an email account yet??
« on: February 21, 2012, 01:12:51 PM »

At first I resisted. I figured I would just end up using it as a junk email account and by the time my kid is of age it will be getting so much spam. Besides, who says Gmail will be around in 15 years anyway?? Lol

In the end I figured I'm doing him a service by snagging his name while it's still avail...

Google has an age limit of 13 so you may have to fib a little bit when opening the account.....

As they say: in 30 years, the hardest thing for our children will be to find a username not already taken...

Really good video from google - Just how does it work with the google age limit

Google has an age limit of 13 so you may have to fib a little bit when opening the account.....

I actually opened an email address when my daughter was a few days old...

in 15 years, the whole concept of email will be gone. Rather, your brain will be wi-fi capable and you'll  automatically be connected to th nearest public wi-fi network (which will be basic human right, so the gov't will be responsible for that such as health care today) so you can log in to your cloud account, no need for user or password, it'll be detected by your DNA, so just "think" a msg, "think" send to your friend, and he'll get the msg right into his head... Via wi-fi....      Edit: another benefit, you'll never forget anything! You can easily save all your memories of your brain right into your cloud acc, just "think" connect to network, then think "transfer my memories" think "save" and you're all done!

@ meshugener: I hope not.

Imagine the headlines:

Help, 50MM people have been eradicated through some hacker.

275 people that have not updated their system with the critical patches, have permanently damaged their vision....

The new facebook timeline is amazing, I opened a facebook account for my son and we tag all the photos of him. His timeline just keeps growing with new photos :D

Seems like an awful amount of work not knowing what the technology world will be like in 15 years. Will Facebook still be around?
What if you finally show it to him by his Bar Mitzvah and for whatever reason he's not into pictures (as many kids aren't) and glances at it and then runs off disinterested? I print most important pics and put them in albums, so growing up my kids will see all the pictures there. Personally I don't feel it's worth the time investment to digitize their lives like that....

Edit:  just reread Bahayman's post - I see it's just pics u were anyways uploading and u just tag him - not too much work. However, the whole gmail account thing sounds a bit much for me.
Question: If you were presented that email account as a teen with many pics that you had seen before in albums, would you have much interest in scrolling through all the emails. I agree that it's a cool concept but I don't see the payoff..

Even if he's disinterested at 13, odds are at some point he will be.  I know I would've loved to have something like that ad waiting for me even if at 13 I may not have appreciated it as much as I would today.

On a more old fashioned note, some people buy all newspaper the day the kid is born, an show him later all that happened this day.

Some papers allow you to order it years later.

In a couple of years people will be fed up carrying cells around etc, so at every street corner they will place phones to use, which well be called pay-phones
