Is there no exemption they could receive? Can the Sabbath be observed the following day?

The Catholic Church has something called dispensation. I was just wondering.

I am not big on religious history but if I recall God rested on the seventh day. Does the Torah teach that a day was 24 hours when the world was created?

Not going to happen. It is when it is.

Might as well spin this off to it's own thread now :)

I was thinking out loud to see if there was a work around. OK back to the original article. They made the correct decision. What should have they done?

didnt watch the whole video but it seems that case might have been different due to scheduling conflicts (or lack thereof)

You should learn from your mistakes not make them again. These schedules are usually put out way in advance. I have been in this position before. Players, parents, coaches and others make arraignments based on these schedules. On the surface it seems what is the big deal just change the time. It is not fair to the other teams.

True that they were advised back when they joined years ago that they can run into an issue with the Sabbath, but in light of the fact that TAPPS did care to accomodate a Seventh Day Adventist school just two years ago, they probably could've and still could accomotate this school as well. If there is a will there is a way, but the will has to be there first. Its just a matter of giving them a early start on Friday, and if they win, the last game on Saturday.

It cant be so in advance, if they just found out who the winners to advance are, in the last week or so.

Schedules as in time and dates. You are placed in brackets is how it usually works. If you make it to the finals you will know the time and date for every game in advance. I had to make these schedules for many years. Also don’t forget about the refs, workers, game venue and I could go on and on.

In their last game their opponent agreed to switch days with them, as others have done in the past as well. If their current opponent would be interested in facing them ,( instead of playing the team that lost to these guys by 20 last week), im sure it could be worked out.

For things to work out you need both sides to work together. One side in the equation is set in their ways. It is really hard to discuss this without some feeling their religion is being attacked.

Correct. While their last opponent was considerate to their beliefs and changed to accomodate them, their current oppenent is not willing to do so.

I don't think it is and neither did the coach. They were warned at the beginning of the season it's silly to hold a grudge based on this... And if I was the other team heck ya I would want to play a bad team in the semi-finals. Some people just want to win it's not always about being peacy and accommodating the minority. That's what 'Murka is all about opportunity to succeed  and I applaud the other team for taking it :-)
