Windows 8.1 Q's

I upgraded my mother's computer to 8.1 and she lost her Avast antivirus. She has a paid version. After reading online I see this is a problem everyone is having but I can't find a confirmed solution. She still has half a year left until her license expires.

Does anyone know what I can do?  TIA

Same here with the free version.

I'm not sure how to fix it (mine being free, I just DL a new copy) but a start might be to go to C: then a folder called windows.old, in there is all your pre-update files (mine has 7GB with 107k files). In mine in there is a folder "program files" with an Avast folder inside and a hidden "program data" (in widdows.old) folder also with an Avast folder inside.

Perhaps s/o can comment on the feasibility of coping those folders (or the license part) to the regular program files.

For someone who is used to Windows 7, or prior, Windows 8 is an entirely new experience (that IMO) does not give you a whole lot.  Especially, without touch - but even with it.

The fact that it is a touch would not make it necessarily use any more battery.  The brightness (either touch, or regular) is much more a control factor.

HELP! I upgraded to 8.1, now XP doesn't open on VirtualBox, any suggestions?
Could not start the machine Windows XP because the following physical network interfaces were not found:

I had to uninstall and reinstall drivers after upgrading to get network/ sound working after upgrading to 8.1

BTW i'm finding many systems are crawling with Windows 8 and when I change it to Windows 7 they're great.

Someone once linked to a driver that converts windows 8 to windows 7 or XP. Anyone know where I can find such a thing?
