so what's the professional consensus here:
stay with 8? or upgrade to 8.1?
classicshell start? or StartMenu8?

(or should i really just 'downgrade' to 7 :-P )
(using non-touch)

Why do you prefer Startmenu8 over Classicshell?
BTW, if you don't care to spend $2 (or obtain illegally) , I recommend this: http://www.startisback.com/

Startmenu8 is closer to original look, more options and customizable and a little less buggy in my experience.

Question. I just got an HP Probook 430 and it came with Windows 7 Pro on it. Any benefit to having Windows 8 on it?

TIA

Only you can answer this question, do you like Win8 or not?...
Some people are very hard at accepting changes (mostly those over 35 yrs old), some people are just confused about it, but some people got used to it and love it - especially after the recent update on top of the earlier 8.1 update.

I don't mind it. When I was looking to purchase a 13" I was expecting it to be a Windows 8. It definitely has some nice updates but unless it would help the computer run better in any way , at this point I'd be happier sticking with Windows 7.

Are there any apps that are actually useful? Besides Teamviewer.

God mode
« Reply #259 on: October 01, 2014, 05:04:03 PM »
This is a pretty cool feature that not too many people know about:

You can create a folder on Windows that gives access to all control options in one place:

To enter "GodMode," one need only create a new folder and then rename the folder to the following:

       GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

Once that is done, the folder's icon will change to resemble a control panel and will contain dozens of control options. I'm not sure it's my idea of playing God, but it is a handy way to get to all kinds of controls.
