couple of clients did that, some others had me reinstall windows 7
Only issue I'm really having now is the things that load as apps. Is there anyway to close an app?

And the stupid parts are 1. its called Windows, meaning that you can multi-task. This whole Metro crap is the exact opposite. MS just wants everyone to use WinPhone, so they're reverting their Desktop OS to the DOS days of 1 program at a time.
2. If you're gonna radically redesign your OS, why not do what everyone has been begging you to do for years, rewrite it from the ground up instead of reapplying lipstick on the pig every 2 years.

Here are a few options

http://classicshell.sourceforge.net/

http://ninite.com/
check classic start then hit download

On a side note

Ninite is one of the best websites for a technician that I've seen in the last few years. You check off whatever you want to download and they will all install without the pain of going to each website to download each tool.

For example you just check off chrome, adobe reader, vlc player, antivirus, winrar, classic start and you let them all download - it literally makes the reinstallation of windows 20 min shorter
Yeah Ninite is great.
I prefer StartIsBack (http://goo.gl/IQeBr) because it messes around with a lot less.  But Classic Shell is great too.

For Windows 8 Downgrade:
Careful, its (almost) irreversible.
W8 stores boot activation keys in Bios.
But if you dont care.
Backup activation: http://goo.gl/XbFWq  (copy to USB)
Install fresh copy of Windows 7, and use Daz loader ( http://goo.gl/TAyVC )

I haven't done it myself, but that's what it seems from what I've read.
If DH has done it, then better listen to him...

Iv'e sone it countless times. Nothing is irreversable and I don't reccomend daz loader - it catches up with you every few weeks or months

What do you recommend. What's a good way to downgrade to a genuine Windows 7 that also easily reversible?

The only way I can think that is "Easily Reversable" is if you leave the recovery partition - and even that may not be so "easily reversabile". You can always reinstall windows - But that takes some time.

I would either swap out the Win 8 HD, or partition off the instalation, and dual boot

I would delete the partition. Dual Boot is pointless, unless you need both OS for whatever reason.

Also the Dual Boot will delay your start-up

If I want to have a genuine windows 7 experience what is my best option? Forget easily reversible, just that it can be undone one day and return to Windows 8.

Can someone please write a guide in laymen terms with clear concise instructions? I know I would very much appreciate it, and I'm sure others will as well.

Thanks

I can set the wait to 0 and have it boot straight to Win7

Look at EasyBCD.  It supports Windows 8.

But then if you wanna boot into WIn 8, you wont be able to.

What I'm saying is if your not using Win 8, then just wipe it

I can modify the boot wait, and default boot when I want to use Win8
