Unlock iPhone 4s ????

There is no way to find out about the 5 right now. Technically, it should work.
I'll be buying mine outright and unlocked, get's me an unlocked iPhone with a warranty backed by the full faith and credit of American Express.

You will be able to buy unlocked phones instantly. Also, if you buy Sprint or Verizon, it's a world phone, the SIM is made for international sims. It should work with at&t/t-mobile sims too (the blackberry's used to.)

I would rather spend the extra $350 so I don't have to:

1: Have a contract
2: only have an amex warranty on $200
3: have an unlocked phone.

Warranty is most important, unless you want to pay an extra $10+ a month for a carrier warranty...

That is wrong.

The Sprint and Verizon comes locked. You have to request them to unlock it.
You have to be a customer to get it unlocked.

Even after its unlocked it will NOT work in the USA with a SIM

If Apple will sell it for $650 like by iPhone 4s - than its really on $100 more

Cuz an ATT iPhone w/o contract upgrade sells online for about $550

Well for the iPhone 4 unlock with at&t we had to wait for the iphone 4s release plus a couple of months... for the 4S it was a couple of months, i would assume the systems are in place and they now understand the consumer's needs so maybe not right away but faster i think...

2 things - its not unlocked, and u'll be locked in a 2 year contract, besides that you have to be eligible for the upgrade.

$450 is the cash out of pocket... But in reality I think it makes sense to pay $650 for unlock, especially if you want it unlocked

I still will never pay 3+ times the price of the phone just to get a larger warranty coverage... and being in contract with at&t is not a problem for me... I like their network, my plan and their CS... the only downside as stated above is the eligibility for upgrade...

and btw... a screen replacement costs $30 and is one of the easiest part to replace in an iphone...

Go on apple's website or at&t and u can buy a factory unlocked 4S for $649 and it will be unlocked for international use on any GSM networks. I also stated in another thread the prices for unlocked iPhone 4 and 3GS

If the unlock was done through your carrier and not through jailbreak (i.e. ultrasn0w) then there is no problem.

As of June 2012 AT&T will unlock your iPhone 4 or 4s ONLY IF:

1)You paid full retail price for phone, and you have receipt to prove it.
2)You completed your 24 month contract
3)You paid early termination fee

your account must be in good standing and yo can only unlock up to 5 iPhones per account(per year)


p.s. i had iPhone 4s, and after 48 minuted on the phone with at&t and NOT qualifying for unlock, i got the factory unlock.
