Hotel Compensation Master Thread

Hotel: Park Hyatt Paris
Year of incident: 2010
Status at time of incident: Diamond
Incident: Construction noise in room above ours woke us up one morning and continued for a few hours.
Compensation: 18K Points (at that time that was the rate for 1 night at the PH Paris) was offered over the phone while we were in the room.

Hotel: Park Hyatt Zurich
Year of incident: 2010
Status at time of incident: Diamond
Incident: Couldn't offer kosher breakfast
Compensation: 5K Points was offered via email before the stay.

Hotel: Grand Hyatt Kauai
Year of incident: 2009
Status at time of incident: Diamond
Incident: Fire alarm went off from 4am-4:30am with evacuation required.
Compensation: An apology letter offered a $50 resort credit, but a manager gave us 18K points (at that time that was the rate for 1 night at the GH Kauai) and a $100 resort credit…which bought a nice pair of Naot’s for my wife!

Hotel: Park Hyatt Toronto
Year of incident: 2010
Status at time of incident: Diamond
Incident: Multiple issues, described in this complaint letter.
Compensation: 18K Points awarded by GP customer service after the stay following email complaint.

Hotel: W South Beach
Year of incident: 2011
Status at time of incident: Platinum
Incident: Smoke smell in room every morning, poor service from checkin agents, room service didn't respect do not disturb on multiple occasions, lost and found refused to locate a dress shirt left in room just after we checked out.
Compensation: $130 and 5K Points.

What is your estimated value of the points you received for each incidence? I'm not so familiar with the cpm value of most hotel chains

Incident: Couldn't offer kosher breakfast

Hotel: best western in Boston it was a huge mistake)
Year of incident: 2011
Status at time of incident:
Incident: confirmed multiple times that we would have a crib. Arrived at 1 AM there was no crib in the room and they were unable to locate one
Compensation: At first offered to take $10 off my bill (I laughed). Then took 50% off of that night. when I got home I wrote a letter and they took if the rest of the charge from that night
Life isn't about checking the boxes. Nobody cares.

Hotel: Marriot Lancaster Convention Center (won on PL)
Year of incident: 2009 (Right after it opened)
Status at time of incident: None
Incident: A/C in the room stopped working (@ 10 am). An engineer came and we will have to change rooms. We were planning on leaving so I told him to ask the front desk if they can adjust the bill.
Compensation: At first offered to waive the parking charge ($14). A manager refunded the entire bill.

Incident: Free Breakfast included in Platinum but we weren't eating it because of kashrus
Compensation: $75 hotel credit + one night free parking (normally $35)

This was an award stay for 3 nights.

This was a priceline stay.

Incident: Room not ready for half hour at checkin
Compensation: Checkin agent proactively offered 2 free cocktails or a free night of valet parking.

Hotel: Le Meridian Khao Lak
Year of incident: 2009
Status at time of incident: Platinum
Incident: Colonies of ants in room, lack of sufficient hot water to shower longer than 3 minutes.
Compensation: 2 free hot-stone massages and refund of 24K upgrade fee paid to upgrade to private pool villa for the 2 night stay.

Hotel: W Hong Kong
Year of incident: 2010
Status at time of incident: Platinum
Incident: Given the keys to an occupied room at checkin, TV didn't work and the technician was in the room for hours at night and the next day fixing it.  Rooftop infinity pool was closed for the last day without notice given.
Compensation: We got to stay in the Marvellous Suite instead of being downgraded to a Fantastic Suite as we were supposed to have been (long story) and received 48,000 Starpoints in compensation for a stay that only cost 17K points+$360.

Hotel: sheraton st. Louis
Year of incident: 2009
Status at time of incident: None
Incident: tried checking in at 1 am, informed no rooms and they would transfer us to nearby Hilton. Waited for the bus for 1 hr. finally manager said shell drive us in her car.
Drove us to Hilton.at first they said  No rooms. Finally they located one. We went upstairs and there were no beds. It was a conference room with couches. I was really upset. 2:30 am. Went downstairs. Gave us another room. Checked in went up to room and purple sleeping in bed jump up freaked out (if it was you I walked into , let me know what type of comp. you got :) ) finally located a room. 3:30 am
Compensation: 25k starwood points + $25 borders gift card (don't ask my why they gave that) + credit for my room that night

Incident:Hotel oversold for first night of our 6 night stay
Compensation: Manager called us in NY one night before arrival and asked if he could move us to the nearby boutique hotel Koa Kea for the first night of our FFN award stay. The free night was refunded back to my account and we received a $300 resort credit which we used to book Blue Helicopter tours.

Grr wish I'd seen this earlier. In January I stayed at a Sheraton and there was no safe in the room. My wife hid her iPod in  a drawer because of this. A few hours after leaving the hotel she realized she had left it behind. We called the hotel but of course no one had found it. Do you think there's even a point in complaining now 4 months later?
