Most banks officially allow it. I once asked a CSR (when adding a bank acc to a card over the phone) how they could do it since it could be its not authorized, he told me its very simple, we know who you are, so once the bank acc owner notice money missing he trace it to us and we see it went to your CC account.
Love me or hate me. I still love you.

I had a problem with Citi once where they removed the account as it wasn't in the cardholders name, so I added an AU with that name and then no more problems...
Good idea. You think this would be a solution for Amex as well?

and I have been using a bank account with a different name on it on my spg account for years
+1. But are we risk free?
Could it be that being a very good costumer of theirs (i.e. paying on time and in full and using them a lot) makes them turn a "blind eye" on who's bank account you are using to make payments?

Iv'e been doing it with Amex/Citi/Chase for a long time (pay my wifes CC with a bank account in my name only etc.). I will mention that it always has been with the same last name, although I suspect when they pull from you account the name is not involved.

However when you verify a bank account instantly (for ex. with AP) by giving your login info, I think they do verify that the names match.

So, based on this, you are saying that the people who got FR'd due to having someone else's bank account enrolled was because someone (a human) manually went and looked up who the bank account belongs to?

As a side thing: When you enroll a bank account, if I remember correctly, it doesn't ask you for the name of the bank account holder. How are they able to look up the name?

They only thing they are going to be able to look up is the information you provided when giving the ABA/routing number to initiate the trial deposits. If the name had to be given during that time then the card company may store that for future reference. I've only noticed chase credit card do this. I've added and connect 5 different bank accounts this week and maybe 1 of them asked if the account belonged to someone else (BOA 'send only'). The others just asked for aba/routing #. How else would a criminal successfully pass a counterfeit check with a bogus name??

So how does Amex ever find out that the names don't match and FR people based on this?

Just enrolled someone else's bank account on my Amex. He is an additional user in my account and shares the same lastname as me. Could I be safe?
(Additional details: Great payment history and usage with Amex)..

Just to clarify, you opened a thread asking a question and got answered, now, three pages later what are you asking?

With all due respect, my questions weren't clearly answered.

Ok so I will try to help you out.
6 accounts that I know, have my bank account linked to them. I am not an AU on them, and they never had problems.

How many are Amex?
Use them on a monthly basis?
Do you think you are 100% risk-free or, for some reason, you may still be at risk?

Too deep for me.
