Ski Deals with points?
« on: March 03, 2012, 04:51:53 PM »
Hi,
Am researching ski trips using points(MR). Does anyone have experience or suggestions on using points for ski trips/packages?

Thanks

I'd guess you're best off selling your MR and booking the trip yourself, unless you're planning on flying to Europe (Switerland/Italy) in a premium cabin, in which you should probably book the tickets by transferring your MR to miles.

If he's flying domestic is it worth using mile to fly in a premium cabin?

It's not worth the extra miles (2x? 3x?) to fly in a premium cabin domestically, IMHO.

+1, but with some limited exceptions such as the PMCO 757-200 or 777-200 that can be found on routes like EWR-IAH/LAX/SFO or the CX 777 from JFK-YVR.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Exactly, Hence my suggestion that the OP sell his MR and book a trip with cash.

I'm not sure I follow.

I was merely suggesting he consider an xfer to DL to ski/board in UT or CO, even if he has to fly Y.

And I'm saying thaat if could find a broker to buy his MR at 1.5 cents per point, then he'll end up way ahead.

Delta availability is terrible, transfer to Aeroplan and travel on UA or US.

Maybe, maybe not. I've never gotten less than 1.5 for a DL domestic redemption, and without xfer bonuses. With them, it's >= .02 cpm.

Not sure why I never thought of that...

Every time you reedeemed, or every time you looked for an award you found one at that rate? If you're referring to Amex > DL bonuses, there aren't any running now.

Redeemed. I've found much better (and worse) when I've looked.

True, just saying that depending on when he's looking to book, it may pay to hold off for a bonus, which seem to come out pretty frequently.

Granted, but if the OP is looking for the 2012 season, he doesn't have much time...

I appreciate all your suggestions. @Asher, your right. Not much time. I'm actually looking at next week end, flying out of MIA or FLL. Europe would be great, but to far for a long weekend.

I do not ski and was never there but I heard that the Waldorf Astoria Park City Utah at the Canyons Resort is an incredible hotel and Ski resort. It is 50K Hilton points and considering that this hotel can start at $900 a night during busy season it is a good deal.

There is a also a beautiful kosher restaurant right near there at the Canyons Resort:

Was on CX777 JFK-YVR and it was amazing. Slept like a baby in Biz. There were 10 crew members for the 44 seats. Service was incredible
Canyons is great.

The restaurant was very very good. I really dont like skiing the canyons - the mtn is super disjointed and its very difficult to get from certain peaks back to the base (up one lift down a run, up a different lift, down another, up another etc) and you waste a lot of time traversing. While they do have some good terrain, esp off the 9990 lift, i think there's a lot better to ski out there
