Do your jury duty.

Manhattan Criminal Court:
The boring introductory speech takes about 45 minutes, and should begin relatively on time. Therefore, coming 45 minutes late is no big deal.

If you have a deferment, don't waster your time at the criminal court. Go straight to 60 Centre Street room 139. The line can get busy, so try to come at a good time.

my job is also a serious responsibility, but I still enjoy it for the most part.
I meant possibly sending an innocent man away for years or vv.

Both can be true - that's what I was torn up about. I was enjoying the experience, but didn't want to be saddled with the actual verdict in the end.

I see this thread was started in 2012.
Based on this and similar threads, some insist that if you ignore a "delinquent notice" letter they send you its ok, as its not certified.
Others say you can not ignore the letters.
Four years later, can anyone say they have successfully ignored the letters?
(or are they locked up now with no access to ddf)
I know of people who have ignored them for decades without ill effect.

I also know of people who had a sheriff show up at their door and escort them to the courthouse to serve jury duty.

So, like many things on this forum, YMMV.

If I send them a paystub and a breakdown of monthly expenses. Will that be enough to show financial hardship ?

I've never been, but am curious to be on a jury. Sounds like fun.

And, being that i"m on a set annual salary, I dont think I loose any pay if I need to take off to serve.

I don't think there are set rules about what qualifies as financial hardship, but documentation like that should help

The public sector employer is not required to pay the employee for the day at jury duty. At least in NY

I have jury duty for the day after Pesach. Pushed it off twice in person already, but really would like to take a trip then. Any ideas?

Anyone know how long you get excused for after serving Jury duty in NY? I heard 8 years and 2 years - which one is correct and is there a diff if I get called in for questions or just wait all day and not get called?
If you are trying to get my attention/assistance and I'm not responding, please feel free to PM me. :)

A minimum of 2.

Quote
A person who has served on a trial jury or grand jury in any court of record within the State, including service as set forth in section 128.8 of this Part or service in a Federal court, is disqualified from further jury service, pursuant to section 524 of the Judiciary Law, for six years following the completion of jury service, and shall not be summoned for such service within that period, except that where, as provided in subdivision (c) of section 524, the commissioner of jurors has determined that compliance with the six-year period would be impracticable, such period of disqualification may be reduced to not less than two years for persons whose service consisted of fewer than three days, and such person shall not be summoned for jury service within such reduced period. Where a person serves on a trial jury or grand jury for more than 10 days, that person is disqualified from further jury service for eight years. For purposes of this subdivision, jury service shall include service in the court and telephone standby service.

Thanks but I'm still not clear - why do some people get 2 and some get 8?

I got eight as well and wasn't even called.

It looks like federal minimum is 2 yrs and it varies by jurisdiction.

Each jurisdiction treats it differently as well as federal vs State and I'm confused as well (not gonna post it, although you can look it up on nys/federal courts site ny amongst others and get more confused)
