Do your jury duty.

Manhattan Criminal Court:
The boring introductory speech takes about 45 minutes, and should begin relatively on time. Therefore, coming 45 minutes late is no big deal.

If you have a deferment, don't waster your time at the criminal court. Go straight to 60 Centre Street room 139. The line can get busy, so try to come at a good time.

So lets get back, anybody here with experience regarding not going down for the questionnaire in NY?
Will they come pick me up if i don't go down?!?!   ;)

I got a jury summons recently and I actually wanted to go this time, but the timing was really bad for me, So I had to postpone it.

I figure that if I want to be able to complain the justice system I need to do my part. I can't keep getting out of jury duty then complain that other people are getting it wrong.

They take the names from many places, not just voter registration.

I have heard that until they send it registered mail (or signature etc) you can ignore it

My sister isn't a registered voter and recently got called.  Go figure.

I wasn't registered to vote when I received my jury summon
But I sent them a letter from yeshiva that I was to be in Israel for the date requested
And I never heard from them

Which part?
Which part? Losing a day of paid work?  Wasting one (or more) of your sick days?
I get my full pay.

Here in NYC, the pay is pretty low. Definitly not enough to compensate the lost days of work for most people.

Does that mean you're a government worker?

Same where I am at but my employer pays 100% and if I was in NYC it would be the same.

I would love to do jury duty if it would work out with my schedule. That said, it is sad that we have a justice system where so many cases are decided by people who couldn't get out of jury duty.

+ 1 on both statements.
Even if i have to take off work, I'd do it as long as the Gov would pay me what I had been making otherwise. I'd really like to sit in on a case.

I was called for standby in Queens for next week (you call each night before to see if you have to go in), and I get full pay from my employer (not government, big company).

i once heard that our mess of a legal system has jury duty to blame, the only jurrors who end upon a case are just the people too stupid to get out of jury duty. just something to think about :)
