Do your jury duty.

Manhattan Criminal Court:
The boring introductory speech takes about 45 minutes, and should begin relatively on time. Therefore, coming 45 minutes late is no big deal.

If you have a deferment, don't waster your time at the criminal court. Go straight to 60 Centre Street room 139. The line can get busy, so try to come at a good time.

Everything here is so bureaucratic, every single move is a whole procedure.
And that's before the real thing even started.

So far it's just boring - going into a room just to go out, going into a chamber so they can then take us into another room, then all into the courtroom so they can ask a few questions and send us back out.

The lawyers and court clerks make us feel like kindergarten kids.
Gives lots of opportunities for ddf

Well most jurors aren't much smarter than kindergarten kids.

Those kindergarten kids are the ones paying the bills. They pay the DA's salary, and the judge's salary etc etc.

The most annoying thing I found when going to jury duty is the lack of respect etc for the citizen. I took the day off work. I pay your salary. I should be the one dreying, not you!

It's that way with every government agency. Maybe they're upset you're not paying them a higher salary.

Today is indeed ridiculous.

The lawyers told us yesterday to be here 10 in the morning, they'll wait for us and continue the process.

So far nothing.

Talk about chickens...

ETA: they now arrived...

How many days did they tell you to expect the trial to last?

After 3 days of service, the lawyers decided they're not interested in us and dismissed me along with three other jurors to go home.

And that's before the trial even began.

How bright was the average juror ? Should they be deciding someone's fate ?

Two of them sounded stupid, the others were quite intellectual, one even holds quite a prestigious job.

Here in Cleveland (for county JD) you get $25/ day and still need to pay for parking!
