United MileagePlus Explorer Guide to Benefits

Matching is not guaranteed anymore YMMV

Personal Card
Public offer in the Bank is 50K+5K                            Sign up for the 30+5K offer. You can get matched to the higher offer by sending a secure message after you are approved to be matched to the 55K + $50 offer that you say your colleague received.

If its your:
First time: After you sign for the 30k + 5k for adding an AU offer, you can SM Chase to match you to the 55k + $50 offer.
2nd+: Sign up with a new Frequent Flyer # (FFN), and SM AFTER receiving the first 30k. Make sure to create the new FFN with United BEFORE submitting the Application to Chase, or they'll default to your previous number, even if you leave the field blank.

Make sure to add an AU to receive the final 5k, for a total of 55k +$50.

Business Card
On the business card, you can get matched to 50k.
Follow the same process as the personal card.
Note: There is no 5k bonus for adding an AU to the biz card, so when you SM, make sure to ask to be matched to the 50k offer, not a 55k offer which doesn't exist for this card.

It could take up to a week to get a response from the Secure Message Center

Here is a link within your United account, which some DDFers have reported to received a 50k offer for the Explorer card, and the annual fee waived for the Club Card.

If u have a UMPE card and NO status, then you can do upgrades from a coach pts booking to bus/1st pts booking for just incremental pt + taxes, no fees. If you don't have the card they said they'd charge the all-dreaded rebooking fee of $100/person (always the chance to get it waived).

IME you have to close down the old card.
Once you close the old card, you can apply again with a new FF# without any wait time?

Technically, yes, though you may have some explaining to do to the CSR. Most wait a month before churning.

if its the first time you got this card you can SM whenever you want, the mess starts when people are not carefull at churning this card.

Booked a UA award flight before I had this card so couldn't use it to pay the taxes... what are the odds I can get them to waive the bag fees?  My reservation online at one point had the bag fees crossed out and said free but just checked again and its back to $25  ???

I read through the last 9 pages and the wiki. I understand that needing a new United FFN is necessary to churn the personal card... but do you have guys use different addresses/phone numbers on the United site then for the new FFN? What stops United from noticing you have more than 1 FF account and deleting them?

Anybody had that nightmare situation?

My issue when putting in a different address is no matter what settings I choose I start getting mail at that address.

ATTEMPT 1:

Dear xxxxxx,

Thank you for contacting Chase regarding your United
MileagePlus® credit card account.

Here's a summary of your request:
We understand you applied for an offer that provided 30,000 bonus miles when you submitted your application in May 2013.
You let us know that you are interested in an offer that provides 50,000 enrollment bonus miles and 5,000 miles for adding an authorized user for a total of 55,000 miles.
That offer awards 20,000 additional miles after you spend $2,000.00 in the first three months your account is open.
Please call us at the number on the back of your card when you have spent $2,000.00 in the first three months your account is open so we can add the additional 20,000 bonus miles to your account.
----------------

ATTEMPT 2:

Dear xxxxxx,

Thank you for your follow up response with regard to the
enrollment bonus on your United Explorer credit card
account.

Although at one time there was an enrollment bonus being
offered for 50,000 after meeting a $1,000.00 spend that
promotion is no longer in effect and was by invitation
only.

The newest 50,000 enrollment bonus mile offer requires a
minimum spend of $2,000.00 and is also a targeted offer
that we are also willing to extend to non solicited
members once they meet the $2,000.00 spend.

If you have any further questions, please reply using the
Secure Message Center.
I sent a new SM and just pretended like the other conversation never even happened, just a fresh start, and bingo, got it for $1k like ti should've been :)
If you have my email PLEASE don't PM me :)

If you have not had this card in over 5 years should you still create a new FFN before you apply?
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

Is it necessary to use different FF # even if my United Card has been closed for a few months (end of December)? If it is, do I have to write different address on 2nd MP account? Is leaving FF # blank also good?

I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

I believe the general consensus is you should make a new FF# at another address.
If you leave it blank they usually find your current one.
